Talking She's Home!

Finally my new 06 E55 is home. I took some initial pic's but recv'd a message here I have to resize them.

Couple of questions please:

I checked the oil first thing in am using the detailed method; ign @ pstn 1 then press reset button quickly 3x's then scroll to oil and turn key to ign on/pstn 2 and it said only 7.6 quarts of oil (I know it's supposed to have 9)but when I check the oil the regular/simple way, either hot or cold it says "oil level OK". Car now has 130 miles so I seriously doubt it used any oil. Anyone run across this before?

What is the fix for the squishy sound when appplying the brake pedal as I have the noise from time to time, is it soemthing I can fix myself?

Thanks. I'll post pic's later today.

The squishy sound when you hit the brake will go away by itself in the next 2-3k miles.

I have no idea where it comes from. My MB dealer told me it was normal. Don't worry about it.

Thanks Karl. Did you ever check your oil using the detailed method? I'm thinking they did not check my oil during PDI since it's only showing 7.6 quarts?

I thought that squishy sound is from the SBC pump and it's not going to go away.

Congrats only your new ride, finally Now the bad part is the break-in period. I didn't notice the squishy sound from the SBC pump and also no chirpy sound from the supercharger too. I must say the brake is very responsive and works guite well. With only 400 miles so far, I can tell you this car is a keeper, minimally 6 years( with extended warranty of course)

Thanks John!

The brakes were changed (pads and rotors) which took care of the vibration; tires were changed to Pilot PS'2 and the rough ride is so much better now. The bad new is the tech that did the tires put scratches in all the rims after I asked him to PLEASE be careful, plus told him I would tip well!!! The scratches are into the clear coat and in some areas beyond. I did notice there is a little more pedal effort with the new brakes but I'll see if that gets better soon (only 130 miles).

I'm having an MB tech check out the oil level today using an MB service E55 dipstick to find out what the true level is.

The car is and awesome ride and I love the contrast of the Iridium Silver and black pano roof.

Once I figure out how to resize the pics I'll start posting them.

Thumbs up Update

Good news, the oil level is perfect. An MB tech came by my home an checked it with the dipstick, oil measured 145mm cold. He explained that when using the detailed method via the info display you must add approx .85 of a quart to the # displayed due to the oil pan's design and shape (an E55 thing); the normal oil indicator display that says either ok, add or over, compensates for this automatically.

With regard to the brake pedal noise; he said the system needs to be bleed to remove any air and the noise will stop, he also said the pedal will be firmer.

Great service (on a Sunday) and a great tech! A letter to the tech's GM will be sent on Monday.

Can someone please give me the Reader's Digest version of reducing the dimensions of my pic's; they're currently 2048 x 1546 pixels. Can I use Picasa2 to resize?

Thank you

Regarding pic size. Change your digital camera image setting to the smallest(TV, computer screen size etc) and you should be able to upload without problems.

Thanks John. I tried what you suggested (went to 640x480) but it only changes the dimensions of new pics not existing...I wouldn't be at all suprised if it was operator error

They've offered, I'm getting an estimate this week. I was able to get some of the scratches out with a 50/50 mixture of light compound and scratch out (which is very mild) but there are areas that the clearcoat has been compromised. I can either have a guy that my local dealer uses come to the house and fix them or send them out for a full redo...just not sure if I want to go through all that right now. I'm going to ask for a check from the dealer and fix the rims when I'm good and ready as I've been through enough for the present time.

I've seen the squish/squeak sound on a couple new cars and it was coming from the pedal travel simulator. It will go away, but if they re-bleed the brake system it will be gone immediately.
