TPMS on our 06 E55 model???

Guys,

Does our 06 E55 have TPMS build in? I was asked by Modulare late this afternoon and I cant confirm the answer... I called the MB dealers and I received conflicting stories... (even when I give them my VIN #). I think MB discontinued it on the 06 model right? Thanks.

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, LRD4 HSE, R107 280SL
For my Euro '06 I had to spec it as an option...

Look at the valve stem of your rims, the ones with sensor looks different from regular valve stems.

My 06 does not have TPMS though and it wasn't an option on NetStar

I was told it was standard (gov mandated) on all 2006 & on cars. This is what I know. I had a 2003 E55 with TPMS. Was able to see air pressure at all 4 corners by scroling through on board comp. The wheels had sensors in them that would transmit air pressure to the car. This is NOT so on my 2006! Apparently air pressure is “monitored” through the ABS system if one or more falls below spec an alarm should sound. This crap the old system was great. Wondering if it could be retrofited?

Yes, it can be retrofitted.

I had Steve activated the passive tire pressure loss monitor.

I don't see anything in my menus either. So if it's there, I should get some type of alarm if I deflate a tire? I'll check this when I get home.

I'll bet you need to be rolling.

So I assume you had to add sensors in each or your wheels?
Can you read pressure at each corner?

If you don't mind me asking, $$$.

Thx.

The standard TPMS in the '06 is simply an alarm and works by monitoring changes in the wheel diameter (i.e. through ESP).

Jeff, you do not have TPMS concerns with new wheels. they can go ahead and use "regular" valves. You may need to reset the TPMS if you change the wheel diameters dramatically, or it may false alarm. Other than that this TPMS system is pretty worthless.

You can retrofit the "real" TPMS, which gives readings. It is just under $2K, including install and the stems.

Anyone have other info?

Yes, you need to add the sensors back into each wheel, activate the feature in your car and then synchronize the sensors with your car.

Cost is around 2K like Jangy said, the original MB sensors are not cheap.

Jangy,

Thanks for the info bro... I think I should be okie with the 19x8.5 & 19x10 configuration. I had TPMS on my E500 before and it's pretty useless anyways... (I only looked at it twice in 8 months I had the car). :-)

interesting discussion. it was my understanding that stateside at least, tpms was no longer available as of the 2005 model year. my 05 doesn't have it, and it wasn't available as an option either. and i didn't see much in the way of tire pressure "alarm systems" in the owner's manual, so i'm skeptical that this diameter-change sensing alarm exists. i had all manner of tire pressure mismmatches/irregularities at delivery of the car, compounding an alignment issue, and i never heard anything from the car's myriad computers. i bought late in the model year, though, so early 2005's could have the feature

I have a March '05 delivery E55 and I have the "old" TPMS where you get real readings from each tire in the COMAND.

Well, I can say that I ran on a deflated tire through a few streets and there was NO alarm. When I brought the car to the dealer, I was told the '06 is not equipped with any alarm system. When I called the Mercedes "help line" to confirm, they told me that any request for a cars' "options" must be made in writing, otherwise contact your local dealer...what a joke...

The NHTSA ruled that 20% of all new cars must comply by Sept. 1 of 2005, 70% by Sept. 1, 2006 and 100% by Sept.1 of 2007. That's why it's still optional for now.

The ML has a setting to reset the alarm. I guess it does it by taking a read of the pressure when you press it and then the alarm goes off if you change pressure substantially. i think this technology was intended for run-flat tires, since you may not know you have a flat.
I am beginning to think that the '06 has no TPMS or alarm. Weak!!

This blows... I can really use this function with the after market wheels & tires.

Steve can do them for just under $2K. Remember that the valve stems are about $200 each. I am almost positive that the one he gets you has the monitors, like my Jeep!! Boo to benz on this. I want all the TOYS!!

Tire Pressure Loss Warner can be activated through stardiagnose on any 2006 W211...no parts needed, it gets it's reading off ESP - just some version coding - no reading of airpressure in the IC, just a warning when the pressure of one of the tires drops too much.

Tire Pressure Monitor System is the more active system that has its own control module, 4 antennas, 4 senders and pressure readings in the instrument cluster...this can be retrofitted in any W211 and costs approx 2000USD to do so

Is the pressure warning feature one we can ask the dealer to "turn on", or is it something we need an independent to do?
