I feel the need.......for MODS...what next??

Starting to catch mod fever and starting to realize that me and beast are gonna be together for a few more years.....least til twin turby comes out.

Anyway, what should I do next.

1) Kleemann Stage 3 Cams (good for upper end hp BUT really don't wanna pay to truck it out to Colorado, not sure if I can get local stealer to install Kleemann stuff)
2) Throttle Body......(local stealer is Renntech dealer, but I do feel guilty. Cor and Klee have been just incredible and nothing but the best)

Also, would you guys do the plugs wires or no?? Always trying to snag a few hp here and there.

Would you even trust a non MB shop to install cams in your beast??

Thanks for any input.

Hoping the mod masters Vrus and Rock read this.....

How about some headers? Supersprint, Evo or Kleemann should add some power.

Hi Jim,

This is my take. I think cams and TB are your next obvious step but if I were to have cams completed, I would ship it to Colorado. The TB can be completed locally by any skilled MB mechanic. Cost will be $3,000 + the $400-$600 install. This would also be the best time to get the Mercedes ECU update, then overnight your ECU to Cory for the K2 re-flash. Cory told me the K2 program has been updated recently and the new program is extracting a bit more power.

The other area I would look at is the improvement of unsprung weight. I exchanged a few E-mail with Vic55 and I'm pretty convinced that you would likely see a significant performance gain (close to what you would see with the addition of the TB) with the EVO lightweight rotors. A very easy install, a relative bargain ($2,000 plus install) and you even get a bit of "good Bling Bling!!!" I know you have after-market wheels that I assume are lighter than stock, so you should be good in that department.

I am ordering the EVOs this week so I'll let you know what I think and post some new track numbers. I'm also going to have Cory ship me the TB for local install. I want to do each of these separately to see what each addition does to performance. Finally, cams are not going to happen unless Cory moves to Ohio.

Good luck

1) If you're going to do the cams just bite it and have the beast shipped out to K country. It's worth it. Been down that road before and you'll have no regrets when the C master installs it himself. The cams are great and pulls like a biotch in mid to high rpm.
2) TB= Do it! That's another 25-30hp per C man.

Nope!

Your best bet as far as making the car run faster is to slash some weight in it. Start doing CF stuff.

I heard the following from my MB/Kleemann mechanic who does all of the Kleemann installs for Seattle as well as all maintenance for local SLR owners..

Go directly from Stage 1 to stage 4 ECU/Pulley -> TB. He said that he's seen the most power out of the cars with this combination. No headers or cams necessary. Something to consider....

What? That doesn't make any sense. Stage 4 includes consists of headers and cams.

And, to the person who suggested headers.... he already has them. He is running K2

as i said, "something to consider". And I'm pretty sure that Kleemann will install a TB on a stage 1 car. So maybe I should rephrase by saying that my mechanic suggested adding the Kleemann TB to a stage 1 car to achieve a best bang for the buck upgrade.

Gotcha

The whole "stage 4" thing threw me off.

Jak,

My personal opinion is that the 80mm TB upgrade is the next biggest bang for the buck. I would skip over the cams because for $4,400 they dont provide enough power to warrant it.. From Kleemann, you can pay $3,000 for the 80mm TB kit and get an extra 25-30rwhp.

yeah, until you push it just a teeny too hard and your piston vaporizes. I blew the #1 piston in a V12 with NOS... and couldn't actually find a piece of the piston larger than a small pebble. I did notice the rod went through the block... nice touch.

NOS, never again... hard lesson to learn. Better to pay the extra bucks and get something that can operate well day in and day out...

Loren I have never seen such destruction from NO...jeez what the heck went on there ? I"ve seen lean conditions burn holes in pistons and generally melt stuff...but this looks like an explosion ! Was it revved to the moon ?

The thing with NOS is everything has to be running right. If you are unlucky to have a normal engine failure during the middle of a NOS run, boy does it amplify the damage.

Which is exactly what happened to me. One fuel injector froze during a normal run (on the street, actually, not ***** out, just going a little fast). This created a crazy lean situation that would have normally been addressed by the ecu, timing knocked back, limp home mode, etc.

problem was the NOS was already in the intake and valves were still opening and closing, and there was still some gas in there... bam, like a couple of shotguns next to your ear, that piston vaporized when the nitro and oxygen separated at 600 whatever degrees. Very dramatic. With too little gas, lean situations are amplified with NOS 1000%...

I had run that car way harder before that with zero problems... just one little injector caused all of that... moral is you never know what's going to happen. And NOS doesn't care...

You "got a fever and the only prescription is...

MORE COWBELL!!!"

I also vote for TB from Kleemann, but hey if you can do them all in one time, just ship your car out there and go the highest stage K available!

I feel the need.......for MODS...what next??-evo-blown-motor-1.jpg

This happened on one of my other playtoys EVO MR at 110+ mph.
It oiled the tires down for a nice touchy slow down with out spining out.
