I don't know if it can be reset on a C-Class with a method like that but with SD one can reset the TCU's adaptation.

Although I do that from time to time as well I caused MB engineers to laugh about this when I mentioned this last time to one of my friends who works as a software engineer at MB in Stuttgart. He threw this ecu reset into the group of engineers at a meeting and they found out that this is neither officially documented anywhere nor implemented and nobody from the group of transmission/ transmission control unit software engineers have ever heard about this. I consider this since then a myth. Maybe it's the placebo effect that makes us believe it does anything.

I thought this might be interesting enough to share with you guys.

Strange comment from your MB tech friend. I must say that my 2011 E350 really woke up when I did the reset procedure that is in the first post of this thread. I had babied it thru the break in period and obviously the car learned to very soft driving habits. Huge difference after reset.

I do it too on my car but since I know what the engineers said I'm wondering if it's just the placebo effect that makes the difference - the difference is just in our head, because we know we did something on the car and psychologically it had to change something.

Who knows. I just shared what people from inside MB told me, and they should know better than we all together.

Wow - OMG what a difference

I just bought my 2004 SL600 (April 2012). Had 14800 miles the day I purchased it, and I drove from California to Texas (home) and just around town for the last few days, almost 16000 on it now. I was impressed with the car from the beginning, felt faster than my 2004 CTS-V and as fast or maybe a touch faster than my 1999 Mustang GT (w/Vortech 400 RWHP). Figured I would do one of the ECU tunings like Upsolut or such, do the muffler delete, and get the rest of the power out of this wonderful machine. Have yet to do either yet.

I was feeling like the transmission was a bit laggy, and didn't feel punchy as I would have hoped. Did a search for SL600 Transmission and found these threads about ECU reset. After reading some good results responses, I figured I'd try it out.

Did the procedure as outlined - and took a drive. Immediately I was greeted with astonishing torque and takeoff acceleration - had not pushed pedal to metal yet. I had to get it out to a better open road. Got out of my housing development, and got on it - chirped 2nd gear with ESP on. The beast was released, and felt like it was coming out of it's skin. Pulled hard all the way to near 6k and I shut her down. The car felt like nothing I'd experienced yet.

For all those who say it's a myth, I guarantee you it made a tremendous difference for my car. I will perform the reset as often as I can remember to, it let's THE BEAST OUT OF THE BONNET!

Thanks to those who posted this reset originally and those who have reported their findings. Mine is absolutely wonderful, boy I love this car!

Mojo

Since it is documented that the ECU actually learns driving patterns, my question would be how can it not have some sort of reset? This seems entirely preposterous, since even engineers know that their cars are passed to other owners. With that logic, one would have to deduce that every subsequent driver would be held to the driving habits of all of the previous drivers. Really, I have a hard time accepting that any software system that adapts cannot be reset, this would be counter productive.

2004 E320 CDI, this definitelyworks, been babying my car around for a couple of weeks as fuel consumption was very poor (fixed that by replacing thermostat) point is car had been driven very sedately, did reset in both modes comfort & sport and there is a big difference in how the car drives, very happy man, kudos to original poster

Hi there,
do you think the reset will mess up my current tune and go back to stock tune? i have a EUROCHARGED tune, and that made my second gear at least 20mph longer to shift to third. My second gear now tops out at 90mph before shifting into third, which is a lot taller gear ratio than stock (without tune)

NO it will not effect your tune in ANY way shape or form. Your tune was put in through the ECU, this reset does NOT effect it at all.

By the way, I have their tune as well

I tried this after applying the tune to my car and it certainly felt as if it affected it. Maybe it was just the settings for the tranny shifts or something, but after using this trick my tune went to feeling like it was stock again with the lag after kicking down the gas pedal on my C63.

After applying the tune the lag was gone and my car was a beast again with near perfect throttle response.

I was told by Jerry while inquiring that any flashing will trigger the same reset, so i think just applying the tune will also clear the transmission adaptations, at least that was his opinion on it.

FWIW I felt like my car was initially a different animal when I got it back from MB my first trip in there, had some bogus CEL codes and they installed a "software update" to try to fix it, figure it must have reset the transmission because it was snappy, and i was happy. I can tell its faded away since then.

Might be our best bet as I've heard the trick doesn't work on E63 7spds, I tried it once and couldn't easily decipher real change vs. placebo.

I gave this a try for the first time since when I first purchased the car and my spidey senses say it made a difference.

Before I would cruise around 65-70 with light throttle just putting along on my way home from work. After the reset I easily see it rolling 80-85+ with the same throttle input over the next week at least. I wanted to wait a lil bit before making judgement in case it was all in my head but part throttle acceleration and power is notably stronger after doing this.

My .02 Dinars on the matter.
