Ohhh mamma!

My name is Matt and I too am a ECU resetaholic.

Any brains out there happen to know of any downside / cons to performing this reset. Will the dealership computers see these resets and cause any probs.?

2. The steering wheel seems not returning to the memorized location after door closed.

Thanks
Can anyone comfirm that the reset affects other preset functions, such as the the memory seats/mirrors, or the Bi-xenon lights?

Is there any other function that's affected (turned off) by this reset other than the ECU?

Finally did the reset. Things seemed much faster, perhaps it was just the shifting aa I was barking 2nd gear in the PS2s. After 90 miles of driving the car got sloppy again so I had to do the reset AGAIN.

Already a reset junkie. LOL.

.............take this for whatever it is worth. I did the reset to my G55 K4 today and it felt slower after the reset. Don't know what it means. Maybe I already drove the car like bat out of hell and the reset made it slower. Go figure.

Yesterday I was forced to perform the ECU reset to my Black E55... I went out late the night before and was somewhat wasted when I came home... Only to found out that I left the lights on over night and drained my battery completely... I called Roadside Assistance and they came w/in 30 minutes to fix me up, however, lots of functions did NOT work including the PANO roof & dynamic seat... I drove the car around for about 1hr and decided to try the ECU trick, magically, it fixed my roof problem and everything appears to be in orders. This trick is really handy...

My reset was done 2 weeks ago. Today, I felt that the car seems to be back to the "old days". So, I am planning to reset it again.

Questions for those you have done more than one resets and also had experienced some other features statues were also being reset.

1. Does the same feature got accidentally reset will also get reset again at 2nd time of a reset?

2. Or does any 'new' features got accidentally reset at a 2nd ECU reset?

tks

Can Someone Confirm This?

"what your also forgetting is that there is more to this. if you dont do this other step, your at risk of harming your transmission/ecu. after you reset your ecu, your supposed to drive your car in 1st gear and slowly redline it and then shift to 2nd where you redline it almost to the point of shifting to 3rd gear but then you let it deccelerate on its own all the way back to a stop going through both 2nd and 1st whilst deccelerating. after you come to a halt, drive your car normally to your desired parking spot and let the car sit for a few hours. after waiting a few hours, you are now ok to drive as you wish. i know this because i have talked to mb techs about it at my dealership. i dont understand how you guys did not know this. this goes along for the e55 guys, just to lazy to say something"

P.S. a member wrote this in the CLS 55 forums...under "Eletronic features"

I think this whole milarky has more than a whif of placebo ...

Adaptive trannies are rolling memories ... i.e. if you drove it long enuf on a track it would adapt to that etc...

Resetting just clears the buffer ... and you use the basic program of the tranny. On my car I could not tell any difference really - thought shifts were maybe more harsh than before ... but feels fine now. Dont think I will try it agn.

Quick question for you guys.... A Benz tech friend changed my octane setting to "93"... Will this ECU resetting procedure change that as well?
Eric....

I don't think it will, as it will not change the fuel mapping. From my understanding this will just erase the tranny driving habits that your car has, I have the 93 setting as well and will try the ECU resetting this weekend, That is my opinion.

No No promise...no BS. I think someone above nailed it. It really just resets tranny shifting patterns. I don't think it really is giving you more hp, but I am telling you the car feels different after you do it. AGAIN, if your tranny is already setup aggresive, you won't feel much, but if it is setup kinda whimpy (stop and go traffic etc) , then you'll feel a big diff upon stomping it.

We'll know about hp in a week as I am putting the car with cams (hopefully) up on dyno. I'll do first run as is....then reset ECU and let's see what happens. I assume nothing hp wise, but we'll see.

Thanks for the tip, I appreciate it....
oh yeah as far as the octane setting.... In addition to pulling harder, it's also runs much smoother as well, which is why I don't want to mess with it... If it's a full ECU reset, then it would seem all the settings would be resetted, including the octane setting (which is progammed into the ECU)
Eric...

so... for those of us in ca, if you set it to 93, would it just retard the timing back to 91? or would there be a benefit or disadvantage from changing the octane rating in the ecu?

There are 4 options when it comes to changing the octane setting... 87, 89, 93, and auto.. The factory default is Auto, however if you're using fuel at one particular octane rating, there's more precision as far as timing is concerned if you specified to that particular octane setting... I'd just leave the octane setting untouched if only 91 was available...
Eric...

Hate to add fuel to this fire (whether it works or not) but check this out.

So I am on the dyno using their 1/4 mile feature and the car turns 2 11.2sec runs pretty much back to back. I ask them to hang on one sec and did the famous Sneaky tranny reset, and after a minute or so....WHAMMO, car pulled 11flat. (the feature is just for fun, but that was pretty dramatic) Remember, this is the with car piping hot on the dyno.

The Sneaky ECU reset.....(Twilight Zone Music), the mystery continues.

Reset windows and power steering after this ECU reset

After the reset, I'd roll the windows all the way down and then all the way up at the same time in order to resyche them. Then, turn the steeering wheel all the way to the left, then all the way to right, and then back to center. A MB tech told me to do this anytime the battery had been disconnected, so I think it makes sense to do it after this reset just in case.
