2001 E55 w/ only 287 miles???

I’ve been lurking in here for a while hoping someone would willing to part with a modified 2001 E55 in techtite gray, but to no avail. I did find one that caught my interest and I thought I would share it with you guys. I found a 2001 E55 with 287 miles on it. Yes, 287 miles. I originally thought back to the instrument cluster that is often the problem on a ’01 and wondered if there was a switch to roll back the miles. Not that it’s possible, but it crossed my mind. Anyway, the dealer said that they bought it off a collector who rarely drove it. They want a small fortune, but what is it worth? My guess is $35K, assuming that they replace all the rubber on the car (i.e. tires & hoses). They think it’s worth $50K, but will sell for $48K. For that scratch you could have a 2003. What bank would finance $48K on a 2001 E55? What are your thoughts??

For $48K, I would get the 03 E55 instead... Two complete different BEASTS!

Why did the collector sell?

Get the Kompressor for that kind of money.

The most I'd offer for it is $37k...maybe $40k if you knew you were going to keep it for a long time. Anything more than that and it'd be 03'+ time.

As far as what they'd finace it depends on what book value they use:
NADA: $37,150
KBB: $43,625

If it's loaded with nav and phone that is. To further cloud the issue some banks only lend 90% of the book value.

I must say I agree with you guys. For that amount, I would go with a 2003. What I may try and do if use this car as the proposed vehicle for financing. Assuming that they approve a decent chunk of change, like $43K, then I can buy an ’02 with higher miles and use the difference to finance the modifications prior to closing the loan.

The value of this car could be correct because of the low mileage but as soon as you start to drive and put on some miles the value will drop like a rock. I had a 1991 560 SEL (I was the original owner) that had 6,000 miles on it in 2003. I had the car valued by an expert MB appraiser/collector. His take on the car was that there could be value to it because of the low miles to a collector but the average buyer would discount the mileage if they planned on driving it. Final analysis buy the '03.

'06 E55, '05 SLK55, a few others
Forget an '03, most of the W211 problems are with the earlier models. The W210's are better cars. I'm kinda regretting buying the '06 (what a POS compared to the W210 E55). Even the dealer who did my first service on the '06 a week ago said they are junk compared to the W210's, and I won't even repeat what they had to say about the CLS. I would love to have it since it's the same (very rare) color as my '02. It is collectible. I'm not sure about the '01's, but there were only 86 Tectite '02's brought into the States. I would make them an offer around 39-40K and enjoy it.

It's not a bad idea. If you love the styling of the older model ( I do) and are certain the car has all the rubber replaced why not buy it for 43k? It would still be a heck of a car for the money, and if you plan on keeping it for 80-100k the depriciation will even out anyway.
