New Car - Squeaky Brakes

I just passed 1000 miles on the new car and the brakes are very squeaky when slowing to a stop. It's kind of embarrassing when pulling up to a stop light and your E55 sounds like a $500 used car. I took it in for service and they said there are no bulletins on the problem. They blew out brake dust and called it good. Still squeaking! Other than dropping $1,500 for new rotors, (still hemmorhaging from the Renntech mods) any suggestions?

Brake squeek can be caused by the pads getting glazed (from too little heat). Take the car out on your favorite twisty road and put the brakes through a workout. Don't abuse them, just run it hard enough to make sure they're good and warm. Stop-and-go city driving will cause all sorts of wacky things to happen to "performance" brakes.

Before you possibly do anything with "the glazing" try having the pads pulled and checked for rear friction marks. Where ever you see shinny metal is an indication of friction = noise. Lube these spots with silicone brake lube. Reinstall and check for squeel. You will find out right away whether or not this is a glazing problem or not. My 30 years of auto repair would put my money on something else other than "glazing".

I would say the problem comes from the pads, not only it's dusty it is also squeeky but there aren't many alternative pads out there that had got enough feedbacks on it.

Had the squeal on my 04 500 MB replaced the pads and rotors twice and each time after about 2000 miles one side or the other started to squeal; the only solution was to change to different non MB rotors (I used Zimmerman) and the problem vanished completly. MB has been having trouble for quite some time now with one of their rotor vendors which are slightly out of tolerance causing a vibration which in turn causes the squeal and it effects about 1/3 of the cars at any given time. Try to get your dealer to replace the pads/rotors and hopefully you'll get a good set....MB, what a way to run a company .

i had a problem like this when i had my jag. they were totally cool when i said, "yo, car's got about 7k miles on it and is squeaking like a banshee" at a service; got the car back and the service dude told me that they noted the problem, it was so awful that they went ahead and did a complete 4wheel brake replacement. something tells me that with my 4000 mi. e55T that's seen nothing but mild city driving but whose brakes howl like it's a full moon everytime i slow down, i've got a real fight on my hands when i try to get some love on this issue from the stealership.

The dealership told me that there were no service bulletins on the brakes. It sounds like the problem is pervasive. If the problem doesn't correct itself in the next thousand miles or so, I'll take it back in and see if I can get the "all wheel brake replacement" hookup.

You have not passed your service welcome mileage (between 1000 & 3000 miles) and your dealer is denying you new pads and/or rotors to resolve brake squeal? My dealer provides free wheel alignments, wheel balancing (make sure to request road force balancing, not normal balancing), and brake pads & rotors for the first 12 months or 12000 miles whichever comes first. This is an MBUSA allowance and the dealer is paid by MBUSA. If your dealer continues to deny these services ask to speak to your local MBUSA Service and Parts Operations Manager (SPOM).
