E55 Vs 997 S

What are everyone's thoughts on which is faster? I have a couple of friends who just got 997's and says that they are as fast as the 55. One of my friends said the off the line the e55 has the edge but rolling at 35 mph the 997s was dead even. Thoughts and feedback. Also want to add that one of my buddies is also an amg owner and is not knocking the 55's at all.

Drives Slowly
From Car and Driver: "The quarter-mile blast of 12.8 seconds at 111 mph is attainable only by subjecting the 911 to severe axle hop."

From Road and Track: 12.3 @ 114.8

So depending on the driver of the Porsche, it may be a pretty close race.

The 997S is not faster in a drag race, although it might be closer than some would like to think. I think C & D got an insanely fast 0-60 (something like 3.9) but I would not want to abuse my car like that!

Obviously it does not have the torque advantage, and yes, "only" 355 HP but I would say it makes MUCH better use of every one of those 355 than the E55 does. It's also about 700 lbs. lighter. Go watch the video from Top gear between the 997 S, M6, and Aston V8. With 140 HP less than the M6 it was significantly faster in the road course they tested on. I can't imagine what the TT must be like.

They are two very different cars and I love them both. Pure "fun factor" I think the Porsche wins. I find myself hitting crazy triple digits MUCH more often than I did with the E55. 140 in the 997S feels much more secure than it does in the E55. That 140 also feels less than it did in the E55. That was one of my biggest surprises. I figured due to it's size, suspension, etc. 50 would feel like 100. It's the opposite. Funny story, was out yesterday and most have blown by some old lady. We end up next to each other at the next light and she gets my attention and goes just like this LOL

I will also say that I've never owned a car where the radio is OFF as much as it is in this car. The sound of that engine wailing behind your head while banging thru the gears at redline is addicting. What it does with corners is absoultely insane. I find myself laughing out loud going thru some turns.

fit and finish is very good and there is not a squeak or rattle to be found. Actually, one of the most solid cars i've owned. No electronic glitches like a lot of us had with the E55 (or M5 from what I hear) either. The car is built to be driven hard and just keep going.

This should tell you how much fun i'm having. The car is barely two months old and NOT my daily driver. I've just turned 4,000 miles!! whenever I can I just get in it and drive the crap out of it.

In a perfect world I'd still have my E55. But at this point in my life I'm very happy. I'm thinking one of two things will happen in two years or so. One, keep this and get another sedan (E63 or M5). Two, trade this for the TT.

Sounds like they needed a high rpm clutch drop to get 12.8. From a dig the E55 has to be the better choice IMO.

Dammmmmm..... you reminded me of the sound of C4S (not sure how different it is with 997S).... and the more I read your feedback on 997, the more I want it.... I personally don't care that it can be beat by 4-door sedan.... (how often do you meet AMG / M5 anyway?) the fun factor and satisfaction of a driver is more important to me.

If I were you, keep 997S and get E63 (not M5... why do you need two "track" cars?) in 1-2 years... and then the next 1-2 years, trade the 997S w/ 997TT

Hopefully, by then I could afford one also...

I went from E55 to 997S and sufferred a terrible performance drop.
I don't care what the tests show,E55 will walk any 997S, anytime,anywhere.
Kept the Porsche for 5 months, felt like I was driving a more glamorous Miata, traded for M5 with a big sigh of relief.

M/T recently tested a C2S and it's quarter mile trap speed was 109, we all know the 55 is 114 to 116

that's why there's more than one car made There is a perf. drop - in a straight line, and straight line only. The porsche handles better, brakes better, steering feel is better.

Raced 2 997 Carrera Ss in the past month, 1 before I installed Kleemann full exhaust and headers and 1 after. Must say those P cars are not slow even with 'only' 360bhp.

Both races were from a roll from 1st. In the first race I had the guy by around 3 car lengths at around 140km/h, in the second one I was 3-4 cars ahead by end of 2nd gear (around 120+ km/h). Those headers made quite a difference! I would say a stock E55 is faster than a 997 S but not by much ...

I'd ask you to pick up a SL55. Between the PERFECT exhaust note and the terrible stock radio - you'll never have the radio on.

E55 does 0-62 in 4.7 but 700 torgues mean a lot in real life...

Those two cars are way to different to compare..Straight line 997S would have no chance...on track E55 ...
