I still think I might have got the wrong part by mistake. Some guys love their snorkels and say they fit snug. I unfortunately tried my snorkel and then went to the track. Was getting slaughtered on the track then discovered the tube didn't fit snug (it's a triangle shape while stock is oval) and my car was sucking piping hot engine air. Was stuck at the track with slow times and hot air....really pissed.
Best air mod right now is K&N/Green Filter.....then next step up is Renntech Air Box at 4K$....ugh.

I have the same one.. Here's a little trick for you..
Install the air tube and make it fit as tight as you can.. Then, either with a very good hair dryer on high heat mode or a heat gun, point the source of the heat at the front most point where the pipe connects onto the grille.. The heat will make the plastic melt and take shape around the point it is connected to.. That should take care of your loose fitting air tube..![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

You have to make sure the tube fits to the air vent or the car will feel jerky for sucking in hot air, use a flashlight to look from the grill. Once it fits, I duct taped the top tube where it connects to the air filter so the snorkle will stay in place.

Honesly M5, if you are a worry wart like me, you'll always be wondering, "*****, is on ALL the way...did it slip off??"
I would go greens and leave it at that.
I never dyno'd with the snorkle mod, but DID dyno with the tube/snorkel off completely and hood wide open and massive fan on the front of the car.......no change in hp.

I notice the part number provided on this site A1130942182 is the same as the one I have for the passenger side intake tube, so I did a little test fit before ordering it. I notice two things, first the square part of it is a bit larger than the scoop itself, second, the flex section on the tube sits on some sort of reservoir tank, so when the engine is running, it's going to knock the tube right off the scoop. I don't know if the 03s-05s have different layouts than my 06, but I don't think this will work for me, so I think what I am going to do is either leave it the way it is, or have my race shop fabricate me 2 4" aluminum intake tubes with filters placed in the front.

I hate to go against popular opinion on the snorkel mod, even thought I did it. Here is the deal; the intake scoop is small to accommodate the original snorkel. Putting in a larger snorkel tube behind the restrictive scoop offers no improvement on volume of air going into the engine. You may have a larger tube but you still have a small restrictive scoop. Unless you modify or remove the scoop there is no improvement. The scoop itself is part of the radiator cowl and I'm not willing to cut that up.
I did a dyno with the stock snorkel and then one with the snorkel mod and there was no difference. However, I also did a dyno after removing both snorkels (left and right) and putting in their place 3 inch flex duct from the filter boxes to out the front of the engine over the top of the radiator. This showed a 5 hp gain. It would seem that there is some restriction in the intake and room for improvement.

5hp gain eh? That seems very good. If you don't care about how it looks under the hood, then rip out the boxes and get some thermo-coated aluminum tubes in place, either 3.5" or 4", put a pair of cone filters in the front, and you would probably gain some more, however, finding a proper spot for the filters would be the most difficult.

I know vrus has some plans to do something similar. My personal goal is 500 rwhp. I have to dyno my car in about two weeks to see where I'm at. I would like a "pretty"
engine compartment if I can get away with it.
