Have to vent!

My car was involved in an accident early May. I still haven't gotten the car back from the stealership's own body shop. Each time I called, they give me some lame excuse about the delay. Finally, they told me last Wednesday that the car is DONE and will be flatbedded back to the dealership to reset the airbags and ABS on Thursday morning. I called the dealership today and asked them about my car. Guess what? My SA neither answered my call nor returned my message. I called an hour later to found her gone for the day. The remaining SA was not very helpful either and could not locate my car AT ALL. Of course when I called the body shop again, they're already gone for the day and some clueless picked up the call and told me she didn't know what to do. WTF? I'm now seriously thinking of unloading my car to cut my losses. If they couldn't locate my car before noon tomorrow. I'm call Boston PD to report it stolen. This has been dragging on for too long and really need to end.

Have you visited the body shop to actually see in person what the status of your car is since you've dropped it off? If it were me I would have been down there 10 times by now.

Kev,

I feel you, my car was vandalized couple weeks ago.
https://mbworld.org/forums/sl55-amg-sl63-amg-sl65-amg-r230/151873-2003-sl55-vandalized.html
i also brought my car to an onsite bodyshop at a benz dealer. The very first friday the car was there, the manager who was responsible for my car went on vacation so everything was on halt until he comes back. At least he was honest w/me when he came back on monday. But so far, they are replacing all the damanged part with new ones and guaranteed me that they will deal with my insurance agent. Most payout by me is my deductible. Kev, hope you and I dont' have to endure more than what's going on with our cars already. Good luck

...........I feel your pain. This is the problem I have with the model Mb dealerships have chosen to serve customers and this is why I take my car to independent shops. At a dealership, you CANNOT interact with the mechanic. You get some service adviser that serves as a bridge (more lick a blockade)between you and the mechanic. The dealerships are not user friendly in that you cannot just stop by and see your car. With this model, if you are a car guy, you are completely out of the loop. It is like some secret hole your car goes into until you get it back. Reminds me of waiting in the waiting room until the doctor comes by and gives you news of the operation.......except you actually talk to the doctyor. Imagine if you never actually get to see or talk to the doctor that did your wife or husbands operation?.

............At an independent shop, you go in, you talk directly with the mechanic you exchange ideas, you understand each other. You can stop by and see your car etc. The level of interaction is much greater. No secrets.

I would love to bring it to an independent shop, but the car can't drive straight so I can't take it to the shop that I used before. This is the part that sucks. Plus, they were the ones that caused this problem after the air injection pump recall.

I just called Teleaid and just like I thought I have to report my car stolen before they'll do anything to locate my car. I guess I'll wait till tomorrow morning and make a decision then.

Been there once only, because I don't have another ride to get down there to monitor the progress.

UPDATE:

Called the dealership this morning and told them if they don't locate my car by 12:00PM. Got a call back just now telling me that, "we're sorry. You call is still at the body shop waiting for some clips." They can't tell me how much longer it's going to sit there. I don't know how many times I've listened to this. "Oh, we forgot to order part X." "Oh, we didn't realize we need part Y until now." "Oh, we don't know what the heck." What a bunch of incompetent people. I'll tell everyone I know to stay away from this place once I get my car back.

This **** is totally unacceptable and has gone too f-king far. I'm going to hop onto a rental and pay them a visit RIGHT NOW. I'm totally pissed.

UPDATE:

Finally saw the car in person. Everything has been put back together and the car looks like it's almost ready to go. Should have it back by tomorrow afternoon.

Here're couple pics that I snapped:

Good luck

I hope the car has been fixed to your satisfaction ... if not take it to a well know body shop to have it redone. I wouldn't bother having the original shop fix anything that you don't like.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks. So far everything looks pretty good. New paints are blended into the factory paint and I can't see the seams or mismatch in metallic chips.

Will take it out for observation and some photos under the sun this weekend.

The sun will do good, but better if you have some of those flourescent tubes. Those will distribute lighting evenly if you have many of them overhead.

A warehouse is a good place to check, also if you have some spot lights. Nothing like getting dirty to find out if your car is in perfect condition paint wise.

Good luck!

Thanks Ricky. My garage uses lots of fluorescent tubes, also the medical center's garage as well. So I'll bring it over there for a look too.

That's Herb Chambers' body shop in Braintree, just off of Rt.3 Exit 18.

If you need your bumper fixed, I highly recommend Glenville Terrace Autobody at Allston (corner of Havard & Comm Ave) near the Herb Chambers BMW / Porsche

Just something to chew on.
I remember when I was in my 'detailing phase' I always detailed in the sun or in the sun with a shade setup.

Whenever I would drive to the old factory I'd really see what the car looked like

I thought you shouldn't wash and wax your car under direct sunlight or the finish will come out hazy.

I learned that the hardway the first time, now i used a tent (besides, I can now do longer waxing runs, before i just ended up as a pile of a small scrawny Indian sweaty boy.)
