I hope the latter was joking, but the first comment seems to have been made in all seriousness. Next time I want to feel like I'm floating on air at 100MPH, I'll hand a fiver to the Lincoln Town Car driver whose cars are a glorified taxi service here. And of course I'll worry about the baby sleeping in the backseat next time I'm shopping for a performance car easily capable of 100MPH+ speeds.

Sir, how often do you do 100MPH when you have a baby sleeping in the backseat?

Stop worrying about tenths of a second on competitors' reported 1/4 times, trap speeds, etc. Be a man, an E55 is nothing to be defensive about. Enjoy it. And leave the babies and 17-year old girls out of it.
it was a joke son, u missed it

That's just lovely if you live a quarter mile from work. You can get that parking spot before the Benz does.

On a thousand mile trip it just seems to make less difference. Unless you factor comfort ... then the Benz has the goods.

Fair enough,

But I do it funny that, generally speaking at MBworld, there is an interesting double-standard with regard to journalists and publications. On a different thread someone referred to C&D and other bonafide journalists as "hacks" while dismissing a non-MB-favorable comparison with "Of course they will always favor the M cars over AMG cars..." Separately, it's also OK to cite something as useless as the NY Times Auto section to criticize Lexus. Leaving aside whether you agree with any of the comments or not, it's funny how the credibility of the journalist/publication and the validity of the said journalist's opinion seem to fluctuate based on whether an MB or MB competitor is being praised/criticized... any thoughts?

Is it just me or does the engine look as if it's tilted in the pic of the G55?

Question

I noticed that as well...maybe one of the covers is not sitting flush? Or the passenger side motor mount is squished down for some reason? Could also just be the angle/lighting of the pic.

Do you really drive a 1985 Mercedes Benz?
For starters, you were taking me way to literally..Not only do I not have a baby, but if I did I sure wouldn't drive at 100mph. As for floating on air, once again you are taking me way to literally. All I am saying is that it is a smooth ride at 100mph. Wow! For you to even comment on my statement of what it feels like to drive a 100mph in a modern E class I should hope you own one.

Yes, I think you'll find that same scenario on every board, for every car, everywhere. It was no different on the BMW "bored" while I as there, and its right up there with calling your newborn the most beautiful baby in the world. It probably isn't, but YOU love it, so opinions fly back and forth.

Same here.

Yes, I certainly do. And I'm very proud of the car. Please tell me you appreciate Mercedes Benz not only for AMG and the cars it makes today, but also for its legacy, history and heritage. I'm certainly not advocating everyone should drive that car (in fact, I'm quite happy with the small numbers on today's roads.

Yes, I already admitted I took the comment too literally. As for the "floating on air" comment, I guess we have different interpretations of that metaphor. The last thing I want to feel when I'm driving at speed is that I'm floating on air. However, you wanted to describe a very smooth ride. Fair enough...

Please...I don't need to own anything to call out a questionable comment. You could own an SLR and I could have nothing, but that wouldn't mean your comments were ever above question. Am I supposed to be highly impressed that you drive a "modern E-class" or an E55? Wow: And to claim that one has to own a car to know what it is like to drive is absurd. I do not wish to begin any bragging contest about what I have owned or driven; I see plenty of that on MBW and prefer to watch from the sidelines. There are already plenty and enough people bragging online about W211's, E55's, or any car you care to name...

Local Socal dealer sold first M6 for $30k over stick!

But get this.. he took in a trade-in. A 2000 Ferrari 360. The dealer's "market" price? Sub 90k!

Talk about double penetration...
