carbon fiber hood for E55
#27
Vorsteiner will have a vented carbon fiber hood for the E55 coming out within the next few months. I understand Evosport will be the retailer for this, as well as the other CF pieces Vorsteiner will offer for the E55. There have been previous threads on this topic.

Keep in mind that our hoods weigh all of about 25lbs, so what weight is to save? Also, the aerodynamics would NOT actually help with getting cooler air in there than the current ram system setup. You'd need a huge box back near the windsheild to get any air in and that may look funcky.

It does. The thing is to look at what the air will be doing when you cut that slit in there. Okay, so it has a place to escape, but what forces the hot air out and the cold in? My argument is that you will have minimal airflow through the area, unless you place the vents in specific spots. You could easily take a bunch of ribbon and tape it all over the hood to see just where your "push" spots are. You'll find that all pressure sights are either at the hoods edge or back by the windshield.
If all you want is a place for air to escape, then why not try to open up some of the pans under the car? I leave mine, since I figure they have something to do with aerodynamics, but it would allow a place to get fresh air.
I'll be curious to see some datalogger data once someone tries the hood out.
