Sold my Silver 55

After almosts 7 months w/my Silver/Charcoal 55, I have decided to sell it and get a P-car to mix up the driving excitement... Over the weekend, I stopped by my local Porsche dealer and placed an order for the 911 4S Cabriolet. It's seal gray metallic w/19" sport wheel and a hardtop and it will take a few weeks (4-5) to be exact.

I have lost a few nights of sleep wondering whether I did the RIGHT thing...

After seeing Josh's car today, I am kinda bumped out because I MISSED my Silver 55...

Well... The waiting game begins!

Having owned many a 911 over the years I can truly say you'll have lot's of fun driving the new car. The 911 and the E55 are so far apart in driving experiences you'll really miss the 55 somedays and others not. How bad of a whack did you take, and how many miles on the 55 when you sold it?

Best of luck with the 997!

2K6E55: you don't happen to live in the Mira Mesa or PQ area? That hill looks so familiar with some cell/tower on top?

Enjoy the P-car. I enjoy mine. Funny thing is, I am considering selling mine and getting an E55 (have been kicking this around for a while). Also, I want a Silver/Charcoal, pretty much just like the one you sold. lol.

The P-car is great, but for me, is proving to be a little too impractical for what I need. So, very soon, I will have to make a move....

Enjoy the P-car, I wish I could justify keeping mine...

If I was to loose 2 doors, that's the exact car I would buy. Excellent decision.

I think the GF talked me into the P-car more than anything, especially the Cabriolet version instead of the coupe. Is it me or the P-car seems to be slower off the line than the 55? I was NOT impress with the straight line acceleration but the handling is superb.

I got 72.5K for my car w/almost 13700 miles on the odometer and the original MSRP was around $88K.

Tim,

What don't you like about your GT3? Why are you considering the E55? I was looking for the GT3 because I like the design but it takes at least 3+ months before I can get my hand on one... We could have traded cars...

The 911 is not the easiest car to launch as it requires the right rpms and right clutch action. I'm assuming you got the 6 speed?

Even if you were the most proficient manual shifter, most 911's exhibit's quite a bit of wheel hop and torture's the CV joints while doing so in order to get the low 0-60's...

Good luck. I did the same thing and haven't looked back. It is a joy to drive. You will not be challenging E55's at stop lights though! That is not what this car is about. Here's some pics of mine:

Just re-read your first post. Why would you get the 4S if you live in SoCal? It costs more, is heavier, is slower, and has a pretty different "feel" than the 2S that many don't like.

Chris,

Nice sled! Please elaborate the different "feel" between the 4S & 2S? Thanks.

Well, from my understanding the 4S is not quite as "sporting" as the 2S. Think E55 vs. M5? Does a great job getting the power down and obviously great in the bad weather though. Even some porsche fanatics biggest gripe with the TT vs. the GT3 is that while they would love to have the power of the TT, they don't want to give up the handling and "Toss-ability" of the rear drive car.

I have not driven the 4S but I do know it's heavier, and we all know heavier is never better! I recently saw a video (go to coochas.com for some cool porsche pics and videos - He's a member on Rennlist) with the 4S vs. the 2S on a very tight track (indoor actually) and although the 4S was a fraction faster, the driver preferred the 2S.

I would suggest you go over to Rennlist and do some reading. You'll learn a lot there.

Go test drive both and see what you think. The 4S does look great though as it's hips are a bit wider than the 2S. But, as I said it's costlier (about 6K) which i'm sure you could find better things to do with, or add some options to a 2S.

BTW, Josh bought his car from me and I do miss it sometimes. Having both would be ideal but i'm having more fun with the porsche at this point in my life.

You've still got the black one. You don't need 2 E55's anyways. You'll love the porsche cab. It will be a nice addition to your garage.

BTW -- thanks for the compliment.

Hey Josh,
I'm still on here every day and have followed very closely what you've done with the car. Your more of a nut than I was!! Glad to see it went to someone as enthusiastic as you.

Funny, got a letter from MBUSA asking to fill in a survey on my recent service experience at your dealer!

Didn't know about my PM's. Thanks, will delete old messages

Thanks for the advice. The 4S looks better due to its wider hip, I saw a GT3 on my way back from Vegas over the weekend and had a few runs with him in my E55 (it was hella fun). I really like the look of the GT3 and I do believe that it does handle better than the 4S right? I might just look around locally for a used 04-05 GT3 instead...

The quest for the GT3 begins...

The GT3 is sick. It's a road legal racing car. It is a very hard core ride though. Not real comfortable, and may be a bit too much of a good thing on a daily basis (especailly the 996 variant). Not many GT3 owners use their car daily.

The 997 version is said to be just as hard core but easier to live with on a day to day basis. I actually think it looks better than the turbo. Be careful of the GT3 though. Not much help with regards to "electrical nannies" - it will bite you if you don't know what you are doing.

Why don't you look at a 996 Turbo? with the 997 TT out, there are some very good deals to be had. Also, power increases are abundant with the TT while the GT cars are very limited to modding. Ridiculous HP is pretty easy to get with the TT, plus you'll have the AWD that you were looking at with the 4S.

All in all the consensus is that the 997 is a much better car than the 996. There are some very interesting threads where some folks don't think the 997S gives up much at all to the 996TT. Plus it's newer, etc. etc.

The 997 4CS came in...

So my guy at the P-car dealership called, some dealer up North traded for a silver P-car and the equipments of the traded one along with its color came close to the one I ordered a few weeks ago (w/out NAV)... I came in and took a look at it and I must say I DONT LIKE the color... It looks too conservative! I sent it back to get the basic Silver w/black top...

Haha, Jeff, I live right behind those mountains in 4S Ranch.

Not sure what yor plans are for the 997, but here's my bit. If you want a sports car to throw from time to time, get a coupe. You already have flashy cars, or you may want to get a different convertible instead, too. Another option to consider the aerodynamic airdam package. It is expensive, but makes the front end look soooo sick!!

Stay away from the GT3, cause it is MINE!!!!

Hahahaha... I am looking around for a clean Silver GT3 but havent found one yet! I am also considering a used 1-2 yrs 997TT but I think at the end of the day, I will end up w/a new 4CS in silver/black combination. I like this one http://www.symbolicmotors.com/mainpa...e.php?cid=4317 but it's the wrong COLOR!

Oh, I forgot to tell you that I have a hook in Symbolic, too. My buddy is friends with the owner. They just took some rides up to Fontana for some fun a few weeks ago. the Conti GT is pretty nice and lush. Now, the open wheel F1 car on the track is a MONSTER!!

Let me know if you are gonna go used. If so, I would recommend one of 2 paths. Either get a CPO, or get a trick one from an exotic like symbolic. That way, you have something on the new ones. if not, you are gonna come up on a new one and wish it were you.

Either way, good luck to ya. That gambi looks MINT!! I even like the color.
