Launching a modded car? Expected trap speeds?
First off I tried to search for over an hour, but I couldn't come up with anything. I am heading out to Great Lakes tonight to make a couple of runs. I have a CLS55 with a K4 package and I've never been to the track with this car. I don't think that I can just floor it since the TC will come on and stay on for a long time. I'm just trying to figure out:
-What setting to be in. Comfort, Sport, etc...
-What to inflate the tires to. I have 20" PS2's front and rear and the car is lowered.
-Should I stall that car up at all at the line, or just roll off idol?
-What kind of trap speeds can I expect to see out of a K4 car compared to a K2 car?
-Any other tips would be great!
I have had my K4 package done since Jan. and I have over 25 passes on the dyno. The car only makes 457rwhp and about 520lbtq. I know that these numbers are low and I'm being told too bad you just have a low HP car. I am heading out to the track to see if the car backs up the claimed HP (640) or the numbers that the dyno is showing (565). Any help would really be appreciated since I would like to get this entire power issue behind me.

Sorry to hear about your power issues
. Who did the Kleemann installations for you? You didn't mention having LSD or DR's so I would not just stomp on the gas pedal. I would think your best bet would be to feather the gas until you get rolling and then put it to the floor. You should do a multiple runs and experiment with your technique to see what nets you the best results. If I were you a would find a quiet street or parking lot somewhere and just try a couple of different launches to see what get you out the cleanest. Good Luck and please post your results!

For a 4200-4300 pound mass with 565 crank HP, expect trap speeds in the 119-120 mph range.
Inflate your front tires to about 40-45 psi.
Adjust your rear tire pressure based on your burnout tracks. Do a short burnout in the staging lanes and look at the tracks. If they're darker in the center, then lower the tire pressure - if darker towards the edges, then add air. You want an even distribution of color across the width of the track.
For your launch, apply throttle like there is an egg between your foot and the gas pedal - and you have to clean up the mess if it breaks.

If the track is prepped well w/ VHT I would definitely try to just stomp it with TC on. In my E55 K2, I got 1.80 60's doing it this very same way.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm heading out in about 30min. I think that I'm going to try and get a few practice launches in first. I'll let you know how it turns out. Does anybody have an idea on what a K4 car should trap in the 1/4? Thanks

for the first run, leave ESP ON, and just hammer it from the line..... then experiment....

Stiff,
Dynos are good for nothing more than a before/after comparison. If you didn't dyno it before the mods, then you have no comparison to make. If you never ran it on the track, then you won't have a personal track comparison to make.
So how did it go? Without DR's, I'm predicting 11.92-12.2 at 120-123 mph. Get DR's and it will change your world.

It all comes back to the mighty Housclas running 11.84 stocker.
Obviously a higher hp stock car, but no way it's pushing 565 like this guy's car. Even on a lower hp K2 car pushing 565....has to be enough to pull 11.6...now the point..... at the right track, on the right night....with the right launch etc...
I watched Derek's famous video on Google/YouTube (forgot which) yesterday and am learning so much about how important the track and launch is to getting those special numbers.
Also I so wanna offer my sincere apology for your low numbers from Klee. They are such a great bunch of guys and am sure they are just as dumbfounded as you are.

Based on times others have posted for stock cars, the bottom of the range is about 112 mph, which translates into about 465 HP at the crank. So if he has a so-called low HP car, the K4 mods have added about 65 HP, which would be on the low side of K2 territory for mods.
