Hi guys
Just picked up my 03 E55 last week, the car is pretty loaded besides the navi system, so I was wondering where can I buy the Navi system and how do I retrofit it? Is it going to be pain in the a$$? I know there are few different versions of it, which one would be the best? Thank you all in advance!!!!

the navigation unit is actually in your trunk and independent of your COMAND headunit

You will need a Navigation DVD drive which is installed in your trunk. Then you will need a COMAND installed in place of your factory stereo head unit. I would recommend the Euro spec Comand as you will be able to watch dvd's while the US spec will not allow video but has the option for satellite radio. And yes, Steve_BenzNL is your man for this job.

where in the trunk is the drive unit?
actually, how can i tell if i have navigation without the disc being present?
i just purchased my 06' and was told that the disc was taken out so people wouldn't steal them. i'm waiting on my disc but now i'm wondering if the car has navi. i thought the disc would go into the single slot at the top of the unit but i guess i'm wrong. the head unit has the "map" and "nav" buttons.

i went out and did a inspection of the car and i do not have the drive in the trunk. WTF........how can a $90k+ car not come with navigation standard.
anyways is the dvd drive plug and play? if so how much do you want just for the drive? i'm in lakeland so i can pick it up.

I will sell the drive for 750.00 ... You will need to get the antenna splitter and the bracket.. I have the drive and the nav antenna.. Let me know.. I can meet you half way if you want..

The E class is different than the C, and CLK as I have had all three. The command unit for the C and CLK have the navigation module all in one. They use the single slot to insert the navigation "CD". The E class is different as it has the command unit and also the DVD navigation module seperately. On the left side wall of ur trunk there should be a cut out with 2 twist knobs. twist those knobs and behind the door should be a Navigation unit. The single slot is only for playing music and in the european command version, playing DVD's. If you do not have a seperate DVD module in the trunk, you DO NOT have navigation.

so is it plug and play? can i just mount it and there will be a plug to plug it in with.
also whats the deal with the antenna/antenna spliter? where does it mount?
you have a disc? or one i can copy?

Make sure you check with Steve first on these 2003 Navs. I went through this whole process (thinking it was plug and play) and was 100% not on my 2003. Steve mentioned about carpet pulling etc. Even said for him, it would take a few hours which means for us, or pro audio shop that doesn't work on Benz's all the time ????? amount of time.

Steve or someone in his office is usually pretty quick about getting back to you.

This can get quite confusing so stay alert. Euro command vs American, TV Tuners.....

I have a copy of the 2005.3 nav disk.. The antenna splitter goes in the rear.. and the bracket goes in for teh drive to sit in behind the panel.. You "should" have everything else prewired... From what i have read it appears that all cars are prewired..

I thought the only issues were the early 03's ... but it would be a good idea to check with steve.. But i think 04 and newer are all good..!?!?

x-tian-230k - they aren't "Plug and play"... the optical ring needs to be "told" you have a dvd nav and in which order it is for the "ring lock" and "electrical wakeup" It miiiiiiiight work for a lil while then it will throw a fault and say "actual config isnt same a spec for optical ring" ......

I never said it was a plug and play unit. I was just stating the differences between the commands in C and CLK units and the command in the E class. Sorry for the confusion!
