E55 vs SL55??

Stock E55 vs. stock SL55..who will win?..Tell me what you think?
I raced these two cars 0-120 mph twice and same results..

Who will guess correctly?

(just for fun!)

Straight line, E55. (Same engine, less weight)

Curves, SL55. (Better balance, handling)

Actually wrong. I know for a fact, since I got to put it to the test at the AMG challenge. The SL55 is a BOAT compared to the E. I went in thinking the same (that the SL would be sportier), but it wasn't. Don't get me wrong, the SL65 won my heart but not a single AMG was anywhere near as solid as the E in the twisties or the straights. The only argument you can make is for the CLS, but the 19" rims kill that notion.

i own both...2003 E55 and a 2005 SL55 and the E55 is quicker. The SL gets more looks, although it is Magma Red.

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, LRD4 HSE, R107 280SL
I heard the SL gets its power down better 'coz its heavier and it will be slower 'coz its heavier so from a roll definately the E and from a standstill on balance the E if they both get similar launches.

Well, every track comparison I've seen that includes both the E55 and SL55 has the SL55 turning faster laps.

E.g. at Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit (from http://www.dave6.pwp.blueyonder.co.u...ng%20Times.htm ) the SL55 posted 8:02 versus 8:24 for the E55.

And at Hockenheim (from http://www.track-challenge.com/main....asp?ordering=8) the SL posted 1:16.9 versus 1:18.2 for the E.

Of course, that's not to say that for you, on that day, with those cars, at that track, the SL55 was faster. I'm sure that you experienced what you experienced.

OK good feedback!!
The results:
After two drag races from traffic lights it was almost an absolute TIE
I drove the E55 and my brother in his SL55 and if anything I won overall by inches!! He was very humble after that.LOL

Thanks for all your replies

I have also been mobbing E55s for a bit and had NEVER driven an SL55. On a track like Fontana, a little familiarity may have had everything to do with it. i assumed the bigger and better balanced E was just taking a bit more pressure off the outside front, which does all the work at fontana.

Well it was a lot of fun. After second signal sprint the best part was how we both "disappeared" from the road to avoid our friends "the cops" We met up at the super market a mile away to talk about the race, laughing our heads off!!
AMG....There is nothing better!!!!
