We've rented the track at CA Speedway on 9/15, and we're all splitting the costs of the $2500 rental for the day.

We have an M5 coming to the event, so this is going to get interesting quick.

That said, I will PAY the $250 fee for anyone willing to bring their E63 to the event. Obviously, I'm doing so because of all the conversations about E55 vrs E63 vrs M5, etc. While everyone is talking up a storm and speculating, I'll actually pay for an E63 to attend so we can all, finally, accurately, take a look at the differences between these cars... same temp conditions, same track... just the perfect storm so to speak.

So if you know of someone with an E63, show them this thread. We get the track from 9am to 5pm, so not only will we have huge opportunites to practice launches and different modes, we'll be able to see the entire variation between all these cars across the board in a single snapshot.

Any takers? PM me... and refer to the thread where we're keeping tabs on who is coming to the event:

Really? I always thought that it just dropped the clutch from 2000 rpms instead of 4,000 rpms on the european models?

That very BAD...I dont now why BMW did this to YOU...

With LC control stock E55 wont be able to catch M5 in 1/4 mile...

M5 just flies like 4wd off the line with this thing...I wish E55 would have it...

Without LC M5 pass E55 at 120...depends on the launch of either...really a driver race...in 1/4 it would be close...

You can trust ME...I was shockedas well ...when it tooks off like that...I couldnt catch up even though I have header installed...

Without launch control Hamann tuned M6 567HP which is much faster the stock M5...beats ME by 1 car lenght, if I luach better then I beat him...

I'm sure LC is wonderful, but you can imagine how badly the US crowd would abuse this function on a regular basis. I know I would.

The trick, for my car at least, is the TC off/ S6 combo and a really nice mashing of the throttle off the line. You can modulate it just enough to minimize wheelspin and you start off at 2k rpm. Its the best I can do.

It doesnt matter...European users are not better the US one... with LC M5 is much quicker in 1/4...and that what everyone wants here...

Quote: There is no LC in the US.

We had a drag day in MD and one of the members here brought their M5. The M5 has a neutered version of LC, which allows a ~1600-1800 rpm launch. Still not enough to get the car in it's powerband.

I drove the car to a 12.5@118 that day. My E55 ran a 12.1@115 with me driving it. 2.1 (no wheelspin off the line) and 1.85 (traction limited) 60' times, respectively. The track was fairly slippery for us E55s on street tires that day.

I think that an M5 with a Euro-spec LC should easily drop a couple .10s off it's 1/4 mile ET.

BTW, my car is bone stock on stock Conti tires.

Is it me or did it seem like the driver had TERRIBLE traction problems on his launch! If this happened on the street even a stock E55 would be GONE!

Ok...I'm in. Sign me up for the event. I just picked up my E63 yesterday. Pic attached.

It will be an odd sensation: Having all these E55 and M5 guys, who are passionate about their cars, hoping that my new car's poor performance will justify their decisions.

As an passionate owner of a stock 2003 E55, I too have been dying to find out how the E63 stacks up against my beloved E55. Its hard to imagine that the E63 will be faster with less torque. When I get some time in a week or so, I will try to do some head-to-head informal testing of these two cars to see how they compare.

There are a number of nice features and differences between the two cars I will explain in a future posting. Some of them, like 60/40 folding rear seat, compact spare tire, and telescoping steering column were pleasant surprises to me.

The 7spd may be the great equalizer when comparing the 2 cars. I think the E55 really suffers down track from lazy, slow shifts. There is a really long pause between gears.

I hope the E63 is faster than both the E55 and E60 M5.
