I know that Caliber Imports (LA) and Fletcher Jones (Newport Beach) just got in silver E63s that may be available, if someone is interested.

MBUSA will typically front-load the production of a new model upon release. Then slow down to almost nothing as the model reaches the end of it cycle. You will see dealers with lots of cars initially, then as the new year rolls around, they will start to dry up. That is MB's method of operation!!

MBZ and AMG have tried to hoodwink us. The E63 is really no major improvement over the E55. They should have TT'd the puppy and they could have asked premiums for them. They really want to preserve the higher HP status of the S class, CL, and SL. If you notice they will not be putting the 6.2 motor in the SL or S class unless it is TT'd. Your going to see more and more E63's and CLS63's stack up on the lots as time goes by. They just want to get their R&D dollars back by putting N/A'd motors in the"Lesser" cars in their lineup! The final nail in the coffin will be how it runs against the E60 M5. All this talk of how smooth it is just is rubbish!

Interesting. When certain "in demand" AMG's have come out over the years they were very, very hard to find with lot's of waiting lists until about 2 years after intro. I guess the E63 is not that in demand for the moment...

I've bought plenty of 1st year mercedes and I have to tell you that your comment doesn't seem to strike me as correct.

AMG vehicles are even harder to come by than the regular models ... I remember when I got my first year E55 ... it was a major pain in the *** to get it. I know that some of the massive dealers in LA get higher allocations ... thats how I got my E55. But to see 3 available seems extremely high.

The practice was adopted by MB in '03, when they went away from the turn & earn for each model. This was due to Glauser MB in Florida buying up all the old body SL's & pratically giving them away to earn allocation for the new body SL. This was a stroke of genius by them, because they got about 40 cars in the first run, where most other dealers got hardly any. MB has since went to an allocation practice that makes you sell the core products(C/E/M) to earn AMG & niche vehicles. Plus they have turned in to a more high volume manufacture, producing big numbers of cars, even AMG's. This is why they front load production of new models, because they want to meet the demand & understand that it will dwendle, further into the production life. Example, I know that when the CLK430 Cabriolet came out, there was about a 1.5 year waiting list to get that car. They realized that they were keeping the value & demand high, but in the end losing clients because the masses will not wait. Hence the front load practice they have now!

Thumbs down Exclusivity???

Marcus: I have been buying exclusive cars for years now. I do not feel that the E63 is an exclusive car due to it not being "better than the E55" or in its availability. The E63's are allready stacking up on the dealers lots and the fact that you have 3 sitting now speaks volumes as to its exclusivity. The "smoothness" claim just doesen't warrant exclusivity. The E63 would be exclusive if it smoked the E60 M5 which it does not!

I am not disagreeing that the E63 is such a huge improvement over the 55, I was just trying to explain the abundance of cars that are around. I have driven both cars & like the fact that the 63 is not as torque'y at low revs, but overall think they are very similar. Some people like the new cosmetic touches, paddles & wheels, but on the other hand, others are not as receptive to change.

i think the next big jump will come in the new body change. this was more of a lateral step just like the c32 to the c55.

got it

Thanks Marcus,

I didn't know about the change in practices that Mercedes did in 03. I guess thats why it was so easy to get my SLK55 030.

Btw I agree that the E63 isn't that exclusive ... I think some are more than wary of a car with that much HP having the new 7 speed tranny. Other than that, I think Mercedes spoiled us with the supercharged 55 motors and we were hoping for something similar. It just reminds me of how pissed I was when the supercharged moter's came out!

Smoking an M5 doesn't make it exclusive either. Only 500 units or less a year will do that.

It would be fun to see if the front loading of inventory is also to stop the practice of price fixing that was going on when the first units hit the dealer. Even the new S65 seemed to come in with high numbers. Should stop the brokers from buying with the intent to flip.

Why should someone pay the kind of $$ required for the E63 then? Can you come up with some good reasons?

This was due largely to the time of release. Everyone knew that a new body style was only months away. This was also the reasoning for the factory only building 400.

Smile I'm sure that is what you want!

Marcus: They should have put the same engine upgrades into the E55 that are going into the new 07' SL55. By not offering the E55 anymore they are trying to shove a "non-exclusive" car down our throats. That is exactly why I cancelled my order! It would have been real simple to upgrade the engine in the E55 to the same motor that's being offered in the SL. The E63 is really "Ho-Hum" and offers no advantages period and that is why you are going to continue to see slumping sales except for the ignorant buyer who must have the latest in spite of it offering very little over the previous model. I must say here that I do not disagree with your position of needing to sell the next version, but to the buyer such as many on this board if offers very little over the E55. Regards!

But MB it trying to get away from the superchargers & go to N/A engines. That is the main reason for the change to the 6.3L, not that they did not like the 55.

I think calling it ho-hum may be a little harsh. It has a lot of good stuff...lots of horsepower , better brakes etc. I don't think it's had a good showing yet. I don't think the people buying them are ignorant at all....in fact the smoother power delivery may be more appealing to many. They have to start somewhere if they are not going to use a kompressor anymore. Its a killer car that I would love to own...except I love being blown...
