245 vs 275 tires on the front
WOW!! As most of you know, I've been running 275s in the front of my car. i guess I got used to them, because today I threw the OEM size and rims back on and went for a spin and the handling is dramatically different. The car PUSHES like a cow on the 245s. The tires were squeeling like a pig around every corner and ESP was pulling the power constantly to keep the car on the road. WOW!!
I'm telling any and all of you that care about handling to try running the rear rim in the front with a 275/35 on it. It makes a WORLD of difference.
As an open challenge (since we all know I claim to have the best handling E out), I say we have a San Diego / LA meetup to do some canyon carving as proof. For those that have been out with me or seen Jay's video, thanks for all the respect, but it is definitely not all driver. The car with fat tires just makes me much more confident. The 245s just turn me into a chicken in a pig.

hey jangy, cant remember your orig thread, but what did you run on the rear after putting rear rims up front? Steering still feels sharp with fat 275s up front?!
possible to see some pics of rears with 275s on the front?

All the pics of my car dropped are with the 275 in the front. The actually tuck very well, and the extra 1/2 inch is mainly on the inside. I am now trying to see if I can fit 18X9.5 on the front. I'll still keep the 275s, but I wanted less slop so we'll see.
I'll try to remember to post pics when I get home.

Very interesting. I didn't know you were running 275's. So you added to rear rims to the front. Having tracked the car several times, it does push like a son of a gun. Interesting idea! Do you have a thread with pics of clearance?

Trust me, the 275s on the front and a little negative camber changes that completely!! In fact, if you aren't careful, the REAR actually comes out (which is nice). HUGE difference.

I am running 295/30 in the rear.
I am also using a RENNTech lowering module and have it tuned for some rake. That in itself adds some negative camber.
For added camber, I am using the MB crash bolts and a modified knuckle plate (the piece that sits at the top arm in the front). If you look at it, it has three bolts on it and it holds the knuckle that comes up. It uses those three bolts to align the top camber point and i simply modified the holes to allow for some play. Disclaimer: I did not do the work. An engineer friend did. Total cost was about $250 for the front end. Also, my shocks have all been revalved for better rebound. Makes a huge difference overall. Next is to get thicker anti-sway bars and lighter brakes.

I've had some growing pains getting it to work as well. It has been my goal, so I haven't given up. As with anything, strengthening one area shows the weaknesses in another. You can either chose top move forward and deal with the next (with an LSD) or you can back off what you did. I've spent a good deal of money on it, but i think i am going to love the HREs in 18X9.5 fronts w/275s and 18X10.5 rears w/295s.

275 is a big tire up front... but if it works.. can't debate that.
I'm thinking of up sizing to 255 and 275 (F & R)
but my first mod will be pulley and chip with 10 degree fan and thermostat, followed by the star lowering and the CLS55 wheels
I'm more concerned with cooling on this car than anything.
I'm sticking with Evo on my Pullies and Powerchip for my engine upgrades.

I had another run today. this time with OEM rims and 245 Contis on front and 275 ps2s on rear. THE CAR IS A COW!!!! I need the 275s back up front.
Understeer is such an understatement with the OEM setup.

Just R in the Pcar. We ran into his guy with the 993TT RUF and some Lambos, but they were heading in opposite direction and we didn't stop. No real drama. LOTS of power and ****ty handling was the theme.
I didn't even get to 140 today, but was holding 110 quite often. Next weekend is the real deal.

Next wk it is, any suggestions on tires for the P car, the Pirellis stink, no grip no feedback all or nothing, I'm thinking ps2 or maybe yoko avs.
pm me on the best day,

Trust me, NOBODY has ever seen my front end, except those that started in front and wouldn't let me pass. I believe in putting the "muscle" in muscle car.

I'd consider the Yokos. Depending on how often you drive the P in the rain, I'd go even more aggressive than the PS2s. Also, ever consider fatter tires? I know it makes for a "bubble" fit, but I have always been willing to give up some lean for more grip. I usually go up one size in width and drop on step in ratio and it works out well.

Running the rear rim in the front. 18X9 et39 with a 275/35. No rubbing or even close. Plenty of room to spare. That is kind of why i wanted to try a 9.5 to see if I could stretch the 275 for better response.
With that setup, the inside is as close to the arm as i want. The only room left is on the outside. If I end up staying with a 9" with the HREs, I will get an et closer to 32 - 35, to get tire in a better spot.
