Maybe you guys just don't know how to dyno the car right. I got 414 at the rear wheel with my CLS63 which is about what I was expecting.

see this post for video, pictures and explanation:

I was looking at your dyno chart on your previous post and it noway resembles the other "63" engines that have been dynoed. Could MB have realized something was at fault and corrected it? Could how you set up a dyno have the type of results that you have that are way different than anyone else who has posted? I wish someone who knows dynos could shed some light one this. Also if MB did make a change, what was the change and when did it start.

Maybe guys who know dynos could explain this!

12.4 @ 116 (C&D MAY 2003). Currnet magazines are getting those numbers with the E63. And by the way, torque is very overated. I would be more concerned with lbs/HP. Regardless, I will be at Englishtown in two weeks and will report back with some 1/4 numbers on my car. (Dynos are bullcrap) I've seen the SAME CAR on the SAME DAY run quite different numbers So don't hold too much stock in dyno numbers.
AS far as a better car E55 vs E63. All I can report on is the difference in the brake system and the tranny...far superior in the E63. The tranny is amazing on the streets....and as far as calling the E63 slow..just ask the driver who pulled up next to me in his CLS55!!

I will be at englishtown when it opens up too with a few other board members. I will bring my camcorder...

Yes, I'm part of that thread. Hopefully the weather is good because I would like to see your e63 run.

I honestly don't know if that is the case. I doubt it but you never know.
Stupid question, but did you guys put the car in Dyno mode first? Here is the procedure i followed:

Dyno mode set to ON
Car Transmissin in M mode
Everything else off (radio/AC...)
built up load to change to 4th gear
in 4th floored incrased throttle until redline

Repeated the same process 5 times. Each time the result was between 408-414. Torque numbers were not that great but I wasn't expecting them to be compared to the 55.

Amazing!! You have a very healthy "63"...I just hope mine is like that. He is west Tennessee we really don't have dyno facilities, just "seat of the butt" kind...just curious, who built your engine??

AMG change intake?

I believe we see that now with the magazine performance #'s with the E63 doing mid-hi 12's @ 112-114mph.

So Yes - I believe the issue of low power has been fixed by AMG with a re-designed intake now.
So how does one differentiate between the two, build date? If true, the earlier cars would suffer several thousand resale value to discerning buyers. Very interesting....

Just be prepared to waste your first run. It takes a few hours for the track to warm up. Last year, I broke traction at 100 mph down on the far end of the track. I was the third or fourth car down the track.

a more recent dyno results on an e63

I got 428HP and 401TQ on a Dyno Dynamics here in San Diego for my 2007 bone stock e63.

Dyno mode, 4th gear pulls, two with the charcoal filters in and the third with them removed.

Here's the chart: http://mymbonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=992

i'm rooting for you but those numbers have me QUITE skeptical. if your 1/4mile times are firmly in the 11's (as they should be if those dyno results are accurate) I might go buy an e63 myself!!!

Why 11s ? The E55 has numbers as high as that and it's only rarely in the 11s

I think skeptical is not the word you are looking for. Those numbers seem spot on for what a car with 507/465 at the crank should produce. So maybe you are disappointed that an E63 is actually performing like it is supposed to and this mean it could be as fast as an E55...

e55's DO NOT typically produce that kind of hp on a dyno dynamics machine! try less than 400rwhp. i said 11's because that's the et that should be represented by those numbers from that type of dyno. if it can't produce an 11 second time slip there's obvously something wrong with the dyno or it's operator.

nope...skeptical was the exact word i meant to use. those numbers are equivalent to OVER 550 crank hp. you have to understand that a typical dyno dynamics machine reads 8-10% lower than a dynojet machine.

...and why would you suggest i'd be disappointed if an e63 performed like it's supposed to? if you look at my post history i've been THOROUGHLY disappointed that they haven't performed as expected. not only should it have been as fast as a stock e55, but faster!

Half way through this thread, someone mentions a intake redesign to solve this issue. Did this actually happen? If so, are there new part #'s? Did the dealerships correct this issue on serviced cars?
I just picked up an E63 and it doesn't exactly feel slow. ( had an 06 E55 about a year ago).

Ancient topic, bro....the 63 vs 55 debate has been digested already. There are stock E63's and CLS63's in the low 12's and I believe even one in the high 11's bone stock.

True...... I'm glad that people realize now that just because an E63 ran a 13.0 at one track with certain conditions that all E63s are that slow. With Oldgixxer's help, I think we proved that track conditions and DA has a LOT to do with how fast these cars can run.

Just looking at my car's numbers, for example, you can see a big difference in results. I ran the car twice at two different track events, but on the same track, same driver, same car, same tires, same weight, same type of gas, multiple runs throughout the whole day, but of course the different time of year yielded different DA numbers:

First Event:
=========
DA = +3300 ft
Temp = 94 F
Track altitude = 625 ft
Track prep = very good

Resuts: 12.9 @ 113 mph and 13.0x @ 112 mph [/B]

Second Event:
===========
DA = +430 ft
Temp = 56 F
Track altitude = 625 ft
Track prep = very good

Resuts: 12.26 @ 114.9 mph and 12.3x @ 114.6 mph [/B]

These numbers are all approximations (from memory) as I don't have the slips with me right now, but as you can see the DA (which incorporates weather conditions) along with track prep made a huge difference in how the car performed. And if you continue to drop the DA maybe into the negatives, my car would've hit the 11s bone stock. My ultimate proof is Oldgixxer's car. Like you mentioned, Oldgixxer's E63 broke into the 11.90s at DA of -1800 ft and I'm 100% confident he would've hit the high 11.80s had the track prep stayed in top condition. What really disapointed me on the day that Oldgixxer ran his car is that Enzom had trouble with the new drag radials and was not able to get a few good runs in. I would've liked to see an E55 hitting low 11.70s or maybe even high 11.60s stock

Well oldG has proven that his times are not all realated to the car, but also to track experiance and how he applies it down the 1/4 mile.

so
  • weather
  • track
  • car
  • driver
  • tires
all play a part
except for juicy who is a cheat!!!
