E55 vs M5 video
which brings me to this video:

I know that the M5 has similiar 1/4 mile times and that it's a really fast car past 100 MPH because of amazing 7 speed SMG tranny keeping it in its powerband in a very efficient way.
But is the M5 really that much quicker than a supposed "chipped" E55 or is the E55 just not as fast as I thought it was? It's just kind of hard to believe. I thought the E55 and M5 would be neck and neck on the highway based on their almost identical 1/4 times and speeds.
Sorry if this has all been covered before, I've just been out of the loop. I tried doing a search but "M5" is just too short.
we know the e55 had a passenger, the m5 probably didn't which in itself could account for the results. the rolling start gives the m5 an advantag because of rpm/gearing also allowing the m5 to be in the perfect gear for it's powerband while the e55 was probably in auto and had to wait for the kick down.
way too many variables to know exactly what happened to use this single video as evidence.

And as far as I know there is no tuner of AMG or M vehicles, especially the new generations. So I highly doubt the e55 was chipped. The MB dealers will not chip, and there is no tuner that will chip the e55. More than likely only a handful of e55's are on the streets of Istanbul, I honestly think at most 5 cars overall with all model years. And they most likely are not driven by speed enthusiasts as well (except one - maybe the guy in the e55 is driving his dad's car - it costs somewhere about 250,000 dollars to own one).
Overall one roll on race does not mean much, but in any case M5 and the e55 serve the speed sedan purpose well (well if you can find the open road to drive it, maybe wait until the late late hours of the night
)
