My E-mail to Wolf Zimmerman, The engineer who designed the AMG 6.3 liter engine

Subject: 6.3 liter motor concerns

Wolf,
Several E63 owners in the United States have dynoed their cars and the 6.3 liter motor only seems to be producing 380 HP at the rear wheels which equates to roughly 450 HP at the flywheel. Has Mercedes mistakenly overrated the HP on the new 6.3 liter motor? Many E63 owners have also been very disappointed with their cars results on the race track with the E63 only recording ¼ miles times in the low 13 second range which is significantly slower than the E55’s and well below Mercedes performance claims for the E63. Also the E63 seems to be pre-programmed to start out in second gear in both the "S" and "C" mode. Please advise as Mercedes-AMG in the United States has not provided any acceptable answers.
Thank you,
Robert

Looks good. I read your post in the E63 AMG Menu thread and I would advise against every member sending him an e-mail as that we dont want to go from concerned to an angry mob. Your e-mail is clear, concise and to the point. If all of us e-mail him it will only make the situation worse. Excellent idea in e-mailing him by the way. As you mentioned Mr. Zimmermann is very involved at AMG and hopefully will provide some good feedback.

It is tempting to put him on some lists to receive **** spam, but we'll keep it on the down low.
Lemme try to see if I can answer thinking like a corporate man.
Several E63 owners in the United States have dynoed their cars and the 6.3 liter motor only seems to be producing 380 HP at the rear wheels which equates to roughly 450 HP at the flywheel.
I can assure you through hours and hours of testing at AMG, the 6.3 produced consistant results producing approx 510hp. So many parameters could be involved in your lower results from weather, to elevation, to inaccurate equipment.
Has Mercedes mistakenly overrated the HP on the new 6.3 liter motor?
Should be some polite banter....then NO.
Many E63 owners have also been very disappointed with their cars results on the race track with the E63 only recording ¼ miles times in the low 13 second range which is significantly slower than the E55’s and well below Mercedes performance claims for the E63.
Should hear the word Nurburgring 3-5 times in this reply. Also should get the, "While the E55 delivers more torque, the 6.3 performs better in nearly every other aspect of performance". Should be a repost of published 0-60 times as well. You may get a link to the E55/E63 AMG Challenge race we have seen this week.
Also the E63 seems to be pre-programmed to start out in second gear in both the "S" and "C" mode. Please advise as Mercedes-AMG in the United States has not provided any acceptable answers.
I have not heard any reports of the E63 transmission being programmed to start in 2nd gear in any other mode but Comfort. Please bring your car into your local Mercedes Service Center and we'd be happy to.......

Jakpro1, I bet he will copy and paste your answers. I don't mean to be negative. It is just that you are so right on (corporate wise, that is) with your comments.
