I just searched autotrader and was suprised to see a lot of 03-04 E55's for under $45k. That is a lot of the car for the money!

How many miles though?

2 months ago...no navi E55's were going for 45-47k from 35K to 50K miles.

As a guy about to put his 03 E55 for sale, that is NOT what I wanted to hear.

........how about 03 S600 for under $45K. Car was over $120K when new. Makes the 03/04 E55 not look bad by comparison.

Most of the cars on Autotrader that are selling for 50k or less have higher than average mileage (over 40k). All of the cars that have less than 25k miles on them are selling for 53k or higher. Personally I wouldn't buy a car of that caliber with more than 40k miles even if the price is that low. Remember you are going to have to purchase an extended warranty and with over 40k miles on the car they are going to charge you allot of money. The E55 is not a daily driver in my opinion, it’s a car that should be driven with respect and parked in your garage for the pure enjoyment of just knowing that its there. It’s a weekend car that you take to the detailer and watch him try to catch his breath after he had a chance to hear its roar.

To me , it's a daily you should enjoy every day. The ability to be tame, or romp on it at will. But I agree, I wouldnt purchase a used car of this caliber with that many miles either. Seems though that these cars have depreciated a bit more than they should have, no?

I hope you guys aren't around when I try to sell my high mileage E55 in a couple of years. I have 4 cars/2 motorcycles and I use it as my daily driver I walk out to the garage and can't resist it calling to me.

Why on G-d's green earth would one park a car such as the E55 and watch it depreciate?

This is one depreciating asset I plan to enjoy fully.

With my 03, I think the factory has a much more generous warranty than later E55s. Can someone confirm this? If so, buying an earlier car, assuming the warranty transfers, may be a good idea.

...........scraches head in amzement!! AMG's are great cars, but they are everyday production cars. That was the whole idea why Mercedes bought AMG......to make comfortable daily driven hot rods. This is not like buying a Ferrari Enzo as the huge depreciation has proven. If you don't drive it, you may get a few thousand dollars relative to a higher mileage one, but you will still get taken to cleaners by the depreciation. If you won't drive it, it will be cheaper not to buy the car and instead attend a few AMG events a year to see and drive one.

I still don't agree about the daily driver analogy, but hey that's just me. Your chances of selling a low mileage car in "my opinion" is greater than selling one with above average miles.

How can a 4-door 4200lb mass produced sedan not be considered a daily driver? Its not a car to let sit in the garage and collect dust, E55's should be driven hard and on a regular basis!

.........you are cmpletely right. It is easier to sell a low mileage car. But if you are looking for stuff to buy and sell, an AMG car is a bad choice. Look at a 2006 S65 which cost $190K now sells for half price just one year later, even if you parked it in your garage and never drove it the entire time. Best to drive the heck out of it and enjoy it in my opinion

Who buys a E55 to sell it? I appreciate a sound exit strategy on certain investments but to try and anticipate a selling price on a depreciating liability like a E55 due to mileage accrued doesn't make much sense IMO.

It's sort of depressing sometimes seeing the used car market, while the real estate is taking a hike over the last few years seems like used car market is going downward. But in general I think the E55 with relatively low miles and well taken care of will hold up the value to the right buyer.

all cars are bad investments unless its a old muscle car. i buy cars every 1-2 years put **** loads of after market parts on them just to sell them and loose tons of money but i love it and dont care.

I never saw a hearse with a U-haul behind it.

Actually, anything rare and exotic in good to mint condition will go for a lot. A Veyron will go for millions and millions two decades from now.
