Help me decide. E63 or SL550?
Currently thinking about which one to buy. Passenger seating is not a factor in this.. Which one would you choose and why...?
I originally wanted an E63 but the whole HP issue and uncertainty has me worried. Wondering if the 25k premium is even worth it over the E550. SL550 has always been a great looking car and cruiser and it looks like this new model has better handling and power.

If practicality in terms of rear seats and trunk space are not issues, then the choice has to be the SL550 - the versatility of having the security of a hard top coupe and a powerful roadster is hard to argue.
If we didn't have our 5 month old daughter, I wouldn't even consider trading the SL for a Carrera S.
One word of advice: get the AMG Sport package, it was the one must have option when I ordered mine.

I let the salesperson know to let it go and took out an SL550 for a few hours on Sunday. The salesperson gave me the keys/plate and said have fun.
Very nice car, a big step up from the SL500.
Granted, its not at SL55 levels.....but now at least you're in an easy 5.2 0-60 car (the almost 400lbs ft of torque gets it going).
If you are going new, an SL550 would be a great way to go if you don't need the room. Granted if you are willing to go pre-owned, you could get an SL55 or 600 for similar $.
The SL550 with the AMG package is the direction I'm looking in.

To answer the original poster's question:
I think you already know you want the SL550... you said that space is not an issue.
So get the SL550.
With the E63, you will be stuck with a fixed roof, and it's not as cool anyway...

SL550. Considering the numbers the new 550 engine is putting down on the E550 and the so far poor showing the the 63 engine it makes getting the SL550 a no brainer. Plus it's so much of a cooler car if you don't need the 4 doors.

Oh, forgot about the SL600. Make sure to get the renntech stage 1 on that SL600 and it'll be a monster. I know they're dropping in price like mad. 04's have been spotted at 80k or less.

wow, talk about depreciation! 80k already? wondering if there's a lot of problems w/ sl600's since they're turbo. also the handling on the 550 has improved in the 07 as opposed to the nose heavy sl600... hmm, what to do. i bet the acceleration in the sl600 is intoxicating.

Both cars are awesome. I just sold my SLK55 to get an E63. The E63 has great power, handling, breaks, transmission and looks. I always feel like an idiot driving around in a convertible but I think that’s just the self consciousness of my introverted side. With the SL 550 you get a great car but the bottom of the SL range and a favorite of car of older woman. With the E63 you get the top of the line E-Klasse and a nasty car that would make Darth Vader proud. To me there just isn't a better looking car than and E55/E63. The lines are beautiful and with the AMG's you get a very conservative understated yet bold and aggressive look. I love the SL's but the headlights have always reminded me of Mr. Peanut.
