Drag Radial Question

I did a search but couldn't find anything conclusive...

What BFG Drag Radial tire size would be best to run on the OEM E55 18" wheel (drag strip only)?:

265/40 R18
-- 26 lbs.
-- Diameter 26.2"
-- Width 9.5"

275/35 R18
-- 27 lbs.
-- Diameter 25.6"
-- Width 9.5"

295/35 R18
-- 29 lbs.
-- Diameter 26.2"
-- Width 10"

I would go with the 265/40 R 18. The taller sidewall, in my experience, will work the best at the track.

I don't think the additional 3 mm of sidewall on the 265 would give you an advantage over the 295/35, especially since you're getting 30mm in width with the 295. If the 295 fits, I would use that. I have 315 Nittos on my F-body and when new, they hook up like a mad dog.

That's exactly what I was thinking. A good friend of mine who knows his s**t told me that larger sidewall will only help in drag racing is if it's a true "wrinkle wall" tire.

Does anyone know if the 295/35/18 will fit?

Not sure the "best" but 275/35 R18 are the ones I ran at the track with no problems. Big D-FSU ran those too, before the MT's of course.

i too was noting the diameter.. if you can get traction, the smaller diameter is effectively like dropping your diff ratio a little bit, while small can help your 60ft time if traction permits, and will help the car rev out a little quicker. Not sure if the difference is that significant, but by the end of the track it may pay off...

I ran 275/35/18 on mine with no problems. Can't comment on any other size, but they hooked up great.

exactly... that's what we were running at the track... 295s will rub and aren't worth the extra risk, aka, the wiggle...
