Actually, 7 Speed seems right. Road & Track/Car & Driver have been saying that for years about Porsches and BMW's....they always see faster times after the car has properly been broken in.

By the way, since derek's car has the crippled LC, he is better off using the "mash the throtle" method, but this requires throtle modulation and some getting used to... This means his launch wont be optimal, i'm guessing he will clock somewhere between 2.15 and 2.25 sec 60 foot. Just my 0.2 cent

As for your other comment about the power gain not being mechanical, i guess you also got that one WRONG. The piston ring seal is really what the break in process is all about. As new rings are far from perfect and
they must be worn in quite a bit in order to completely seal all the way around the bore. With the gas pressure during the engine's first miles of operation, the entire ring will wear into the cylinder surface, sealing the
combustion pressure. Once the combustion chamber is absolutely sealed, the engine will produce more power.
That statement alone proves the extent of your knowledge. No amount of break in will give you 30 hp. Do you even own an m5/m6 ? Or is it wishfull thinking on your part ?

I do own an M5, but that none of your business... Well you have yet to show me proof that my car has a ECU that limits the engine power... Please dont tell me that you have heard from someone somewhere...

I'm not the one claiming it exists, im questioning it. So you are the one that should have shown proof, but have not done it until now. Who/what is APK?

This tread should be renamed... Since we aren't getting anywhere, lets just stop right here and wait for Derek's results later...

Fun time, fun car! Best time was 12.542 @ 114.75 with a 1.980 60'. This car is definitely not as easy to dragrace as the E55 but then again, what is?

Tried all different settings, best for me was soft suspension and everything else full bore with a small bit of loading on the launch. Mileage is a bit below the break-in. While it doesn't JUMP off the line, it does get going better than the M5, in my opinion.

Best ET and 60' are posted above and best MPH was 116.73. 12.7's and 12.8's were easy, as was 115 mph. Finding the right amount of throttle to keep from spinning too much but not bogging was the hardest part.

The "floor it really really fast" definitely didn't work, too much spin. The "modulate/flutter the throttle to increase RPM's" worked a bit but only with very little RPM increases. LC wasn't happening. I think with better launching, break in, and dropping the Conti's, it's a legitimate 12.4-12.5 car- no doubt. It just takes a bit of practice.

Good job. So, are you happy enough with the car to keep it a while? BTW, nice car and video.

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, LRD4 HSE, R107 280SL
You gotta respect that time ... no LC and still under break in miles ...

What you reckon stock E55's would have run in those conditions ? Think would have been very close...

Great run Derek ... and thanks for bringing us prompt, unbiased, no BS videos - unlike ... "others".

Fabulous car ... and should be very sweet round the bends too.

You think the 6 speed manual coming will be easier to launch ?

Interesting debate. Someone on M5board should know the answer. Based on what I have seen on that board, the M5 is delivered with higher viscosity "break-in" oil that probably steals some horsepower. Also, launch control is disabled until the 1,200 mile service.

Active Autoworks is a pretty popular vendor on that site. Some M5/M6 owner who has done business with Lance or anyone else at AA should be able to answer this pretty easily.

And just about every car gets marginally quicker as it breaks in. Don't think that it is any more or less applicable to a BMW.

But folks, no need to get nuts about it.

7Speed is (almost) totally wrong, not only is the M5 unwilling to go into P500 mode during breakin, its also limited in its ability to make power before the 1200 mile service. This is due to the trifecta of 1. the mineral oil they use during breakin 2. the piston ring issue 3. The fact that the ECU is LIMITED from the factory. Put it in P500 before the 1200 mile service and it feels more like P420, they actually check at the dealer to see if you've been attempting to engage it and if you've been overrevving it (all info is transferred to your key). Leaving the stealership after said service I laid a strip 50ft. long while bouncing the needle off redline like a madman.

Good time for a break-in period run without EURO LC... amazing 60' for an SMGIII.

When you can, try P500 instead of P500 Sport. The throtle gets less responsive and its easier to modulate, IMO.

I've seen Stock M6's breaking the 120mph barrier and running 12.1 12.2sec. Let the engine break-in and a few thousand miles from now go for it again, i bet you will get better results...

In Maryland? Never heard of him. Who is he? He should come to our track rental on the 20th at Capitol Raceway in Maryland. I'm thinking about running nitrous on the Kleemann CLK55 It would be good to hear his experience with nitrous.

M6 is a legitimate 12.4s car. I've seen a M5 run a 12.5 so M6 should be slightly quicker.

Who is this guy? Is this vapor? (e.g., G-tech Pro) I live in the VA/DC/MD area and don't know about this. He could have only run locally at the Mason-Dixon, Capitol, or MIR. I may be able to call them up and ask for the best ET for E55s.
