Why HRE???

I see HRE all the time, but as nice as most look on E55's I think most look kinda stock.
So are they so well liked because most on the board have the same taste, or because they are of superior quality?
I put Avus 3 piece on mine and dont know if I am missing out by not getting the HRE wheels.

I can tell you this, your AVUS are not hub-centric wheels, HRE are.

HRE's are custom made for your car, AVUS are not. I first bought the AVUS M02 for my car. They didn't fit correctly and they seemed to vibrate. Needless to say, I sent them back and purchased a set of HRE.

I just ordered my HRE C22s. I like them for their combination of quality materials, custom ability, looks, and customer service. At 20lbs per wheel, they rock!!

HRE makes some high quality, nice wheels but they are no different then any other nice, quality 2,3-piece, forged wheel. i think they are way over priced and alot of people use them as a status symbol. "i spent $9k on wheels...i'm rich b1tch. i run SSR 3-piece forged on my supra and 22" GFG 3-piece forged on my 645ci both of which are very high quality, light wheels. i do like some of the HRE wheels though.

Look kind'a stock? Maybe they should offer spinners then?

HRE's are highly customizable (far from stock) and are built specifically for the application. I think that goes part of the way to justifying the price.

HRE does make a very good quality rim but there are many other companys that do also! IMO some people get them just cuzz they are accepted and are afraid to express their own style. (you know trendy). i realy like the way some of theres cars look with HREs but i would never get them just cuzz everyone else already has them. i chose a limited edition rim that is custom made for my car just like HREs but i would bet you will never see another E55 with them execpt mine. but bottom line is we are all different and i say get what ever makes you happy and F the rest. now post pictures so i can check it out.

the same goes for any wheel company that makes multi piece wheels. you can get them specifically made to fit anything. you just have to wait just like you would if you ordered HRE's. thats the whole point of a multi piece wheel.
how do you think i got 22's with 295's on my 645
BTW, what model HRE looks like stock wheels? link? i'm looking......

That is not true. AVUS is a perfect example.

H.R.E has a outstanding history and reputation especially in high end luxury vehicles. (compare to other 3 pc forged wheels in the industry.)

i'm not familier with AVUS, but are you saying you can't special order wheels from them? and they make 3-piece wheels. if that is true then they just don't want to mess with custom aplications. that is prolly the #1 advantage to multi piece wheels. i'm not saying HRE is crap by any means, just that there are other companys out there that have just as good quality and design as HRE at a cheaper price.

Avus is slow and has fitment problems issue. Honestly speaking, i dont know any wheel company that does thorough testing and research like HRE does.

You can indeed special order wheels from AVUS and yes they do make 3-piece wheels. However, you are limited to their pre-made sized centers, barrels and lips. They can only get them "so" close. Whereas HRE will build it to spec.

I agree with you that there are probably many other wheel companies they have the same quality wheel as HRE, maybe even better, who knows. All I am saying that just because it is a "custom" 3-piece forged wheel doesn't mean that it is built specifically for your car.

Dragon,
Pardon my ignorance but exactly what's the difference between hubcentric and other 3 piece wheels? What forged wheels are hubcentric? Specifically are Iforged made that way?

Ok, I have only met two kinds of people that would make that statement of (Im rich *****) One is new money and the others are spending daddy's money like my kids. lol either way thanks for the reply

I paid about $2,500. per Avus wheel + tires for my E55 and a bit more for the GNG wheels on my SL 600 so I didnt get them because I wanted to save money.
Now this is why I asked the question if HRE wheels are superior, and if so I would consider purchasing them since I like many of you are after quality and perfomance.

OK, here are a few of the E55 with the Avus wheels which I thought were simple and elegant, I also included a couple of the GNG wheels on the Sl 600 which I hate for now only because I dont like all the chrome, but I am going to powder coat the center silver or maybe black, any thoughts on color for the center star on the GNG??

ok, guys be honest and brutal if need be, but let me know if you like them or not.

I think he knows. But coming from a business perspective, money is hard earned.

I say different stroke for different folks, so long as you're happy with your car. After all, it's your car, not your friend's or other forum member's car.

With that said, I don't really like the look of your wheels. Don't know how to explain how I feel about them, just weird.

I hear you, Perphaps not the best choice in words but I did throw kinda in there.

Spinners are not my thing, simple, nice lines or curvs, elegant with a fat lip are the wheels I like.
I really like for the wheels to accent and compliment the car, not scream here I am.

not feeling the wheels on the E. The lines look to hard make the car not look as fluid as some others. The wheels on the SL need to painted and could look better. All that matters is that you like the end result as it is your car.

Personally I like the look of the Maya STM or Lowenhart LSR but I can't complain cuz I am still rolling stock. (for now)

Thanks for the honesty and if many more express the same opinion maybe I will change the wheels sooner than later.

I don't like them either. They seem like they should be on an SUV. Look into Kinesis if you hate HRE and want some that are similar to the ones you have. The Kinesis just have a smoother edge.

I can't speak to most other brands, but there is just no way I could spend the money I do to have a name (ala Brabus) just to have to buy spacers or whatever to get it to work. That just isn't custom to me.

BTW energy, they are "GFG" wheels, not "GNG"
they are model "klessig-5"
now you got me a little concerned if you should even own high quality wheels.
i'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you just went to a shop, pointed and said "i like them....install them"
remember that just because something costs more, that doesn't mean that it is of better quality. kinda like mercedes vs lexus.
everybody including HRE has issues..........

Honesty, I don't like either of them. Although the SL ones look better than the ones on the E.

just my opinion ...
