Silencer from E63 onto E55 ?

Howdy y'all any difference between these untis ? The E63 sounds fabulous and was wondring if teh E55 could be made to sound as good - it has to be the rear boxes right ?

Also has anyone looked at the E63 headers etc ... any value in using them on E55 for better breathing ...?

I'm second to that. I've really been wondering what kind of exhaust system the 63 has. It definitely sounded much better than the one on 55k to me.

i would suspect that as the 63 heads are all new, the manifold/header flange/bolts would be different(?). yes id think it would be mainly in the rear boxes.. but the headers would add to the extra sound no doubt.

id be keen to see whats hanging off the motor tho. surely theres enough 63's around now for someone to snap us some pics or get some more details on the exhaust? Do they use the same primary/secondary cat arrangement as the 55's? would be nice if a 63 exhaust would bolt straight up

Question

In Turbo charged cars, the Turbo charger muffles some of the engine notes, is the same true of a Super charger? Which may explain some of the different notes between the two cars.

I've studied it pretty hard as the E63 has a nice note to it. Oddly enough it is similar to that of the SL55. It has everything to do with the pipes. Does anyone know the inner diameter? I was told that cat back they are identical in bolt sites, etc. but i did notice that the E63 pipes looked larger to me than mine. I'm thinking 3" per side? The E63 has very much that Mustang GT rumble that is nice. Conversely, I've seen a few E55s with punched out mufflers and they also sound nice.

No, supercharger shouldn't affect exhaust note since the blower is on the intake side. Turbo, on the other hand, has the blower plumbed into the exhaust so it will affect the sound.

The difference has to do with 9:1 compression ration on E55 and 11.3:1 on E63. Throw in more aggresive cam timing of E63 and this is why it sounds better.

And that's why modding one is risky, at best.

thanks vadim for you insite once more...

I know the "chirp" from the kompressor has been brough up many times, but did we ever find a cure for it?

My 03 E55 has a "little bird" under the hood and I would like for it to go away

sorry to jump on a different topic here..

IMO this is really borderline with pump gas....I have some stuff with 11.5:1 and I would not risk running pump gas. Of course the knock sensors on the old heaps are between your ears as opposed to computerized !
