what is your definition of pull?
from a roll?
from a dig?
I can tell you that the M5 will trap higher than the E63. So if you race to past 125+.. the AMG will loose.
If you race on the street, it depends on the gear of each car. But I think under 100mph.. the cars are very closely matched.
I still give the edge to the M5 for a faster shifting SMG3. I'm still not sold on the 7sp Auto. It might be better than the previous 5sp, but is not able to compete with the SMG in terms of performance.
In regards to comfort and speed, the AMG transmission is king, since the SMG3 comfort program is practically useless.

It still doesn't shorten up the two "overdrive" 6th and 7th gears. The 7 speed's "advantages" over the 5 speed are all placebo. It has a better shift "feel" than the squishy 5 speed but that's about it, any gearing advantages you'd expect from having 2 more gears are nill.

1989 Toyota Tercel EZ - dyno'd @ 70whp/77wtq
But wouldn't the car with bigger area under the torque curve win the race?
If so, we need to see the RPM range for E55 vs. E63 over 130. My guess would be 4500+. Looking at dynos of E55 & E63, it seems:
4500-5500: E55 from 420 down to 360; E63 constant at 400
5500-6000: E55 from 360 down to 350; E63 from 400 down to 380
So assuming my guess of RPM range for 130+ mph is right and wheel numbers above are quite accurate, it seems that E63 has more area under torque curve.
This may also answer the reason why E55 has faster 1/4 mile. I think we need to look at the RPM range... for sure, E55 hits max torque (a higher max torque) at much lower RPM (3500? vs. 4500? for E63). So if we sum area under torque curve for each gear to get to 1/4 mile, I think E55 has bigger area... plus it does not need to shift gear more often (I think up to 130, E55 still holds on to 2nd gear, right?).
Sorry if it doesn't make any sense....

Just found this in another thread....
It looks like starting from 5250RPM, E63 has bigger area under the curve.
Of course, my calculation above over simplify things. I only used my estimation based on E55 at 130RPM... It may be higher for E63?

But it's not that important... what I want to know first is whether my logic is right or not?

It all has to do with gearing, at just over 130 mph E55 goes into 4th and flattens out, while E63 is in the middle of 4th gears and just gets into it's TQ peak. You can see this on your own graphs.
In the end whichever car gets the jump at the line it will win on the street.

And the E63 is no quicker than an SL55 (personally tested this over 3 runs up to 120-130), and supposedly an E55 is quicker than an SL55 so in my experience the E63 aint any quicker ... sorry. Not to say I dont like the motor - think its really great and sounds awesome ... but it aint quicker. Maybe flatout for 20 mins the E63 will be better as heatsoak will be less but who drives like that anywhere in the world anymore ...
No point looking at Crank HP at diff rpm and area under the curve ... you need to look at RWHP at repsective speeds... this takes tranny leverage into account.....
