Kleemann K2 Done - Drag Radials required!

Okay, I just returned home this past week after picking up my car from Cory at Kleemann. I had K2; Throttle Body; IC upgrade; and LSD installed. Here are my final dyno numbers:
http://www.rosenthalretirementlinks....%20-%20LSD.JPG
The car has exceeded my expectations thus far. However, I can't get any 0-60 times under 5.0 with my G-Tech! I either roll into it too slow and the times are bad, or I get too much wheelspin and the times are bad. I have BFG KDWs, but I am thinking I may need to go to BFG drag radials and just drive my Suburban on rainy days. Anyone with K2 or other similar mods able to get traction without drag radials? If so, how may I ask? During my drive home I nailed it at 70mph and broke the tires loose with ESP on!

How the hell is everyone breaking the tires loose at 70mph?

My dyno was strong but never have seen the triangle at anything over 30mph.

That's really impressive man!!!

Anyway, you'll LOVE drag radials. Benzgal just put hers on and said it was night and day. You just gotta watch the hard cornering as the sidewall just wasn't designed for that. Course wet roads are a death sentence as well, but when you are next to Mr Ricer at a redlight, you wouldn't want anything else.

it's probably the tires - KDW's aren't the most grippy of the tires out there. You'll get much more grip with PS2's or PSC's. You may want to try one of these options before going Drag Radials.

I don't understand why Kleeman won't give out real dyno numbers.... I'm sure your car is strong with the mods, but that dyno doesn't show anything, the numbers and graphs are worked over and massaged...

Drag Radials

So, since I have BFG KDWs on the front, should I just put BFG drags on the rear? I always get nervous about mixing brands, tread patterns, etc. (for
both looks and handling).

Any suggestions?

Mine is pretty stock and I can light the triangle at 60mph. I love it!!

I mix brands all the time. It all depends on what type of driving you do and how you want to tune the car. DRs will have much more flexible sidewalls. I found them to be ok with good fronts, since the front tires carry the most load in handling and brakes. Not exactly best for canyon runs, but around town they work.
Also keep in mind that DRs have a different heat cycle need and potential. They will turn pretty hard after far less cycles than a PS2. Just a thought.

WBRCobra...I have the exact setup that you are thinking of on my stock 18"s. Great setup on dry conditions and MUCH better than the stock conti's out of the dig and rolling runs. Just make sure it isn't your daily driver...

As stated above BEWARE of RAIN...I got stuck in fast moving storm about 2 months ago and it left standing water on the highway (I75 in Florida)...Needless to say, my use of throttle was judicious (I'm going 45-50mph) and I've got civics whizzing past me. Anything over 50mph and I could feel the back end start to get really loose. I have never been more focused on driving in a straight line in my life...

Now rainy season is over and the ambient temps are going down in Florida, so all is good now for the Beast (dry roads and cool temps for the supercharger). Bottomline...if the 55 isn't your daily driver and you want more traction, the front KDW and rear drag radials are a good combo.

Good luck...

None of those issues out here in San Diego. Florida can have some serious rain.

Well, for the most part it's my daily driver, but I have backups if I know there is rain coming. I'm thinking the drag radials option is looking pretty good. I've never regretted putting them on my Vette, but it's never been my daily driver either.

i have been researching both these tires and they come up with the same traction rating. is your statement from actual use?

I would never chance it with pure drag radials. God forbid you get caught out in an unexpected rain storm.

If you really think you need the soft tread, I know that many C5 Z06 owners had opted for Nitto RII tires in the rear. Not the greatest rain tire, but I suspect it is safer than a pure drag radial. It also has a stiffer sidewall, so you are not going to have a rear wiggle in hard transitions.

Take a look.

Dyno Numbers

The dyno numbers are not at the rear wheels. Kleemann does a conversion to numbers at the motor (which many don't agree with). Here is the dyno:

Because they come standard on the E55 and are just not a good performance tire compared to PS2's. I am not alone in finding the switch from the OEM Conti's to PS2's brought about a night and day difference in road feel, steering precision and lateral grip. The car has a rougher ride and may prove to be a marginally worse tire for 60 foot times at the strip because of the stiffer sidewall of the PS2, but it was a tradeoff worth suffering imo.

Why? Their dyno still gives you the relative HP gain. Kleemann Colorado dyno's your car before any mods, after they install K1 then again after K2.

I had similar post dyno numbers as Mr. WBRCobra and my car went from a trap speed of 114mph pre K2 to 122.5mph post K2...................... so I think the dyno numbers they give you are fairly accurate.

the numbers you have on your trap speeds are better than a dyno. there is no one messin with anything.

i heard the KD's are grippy as hell.....you can't go wrong with those. You can also try the Pilot Sport Cups, although the size options are limited.

both are definitely not recommended in the rain.

Yup,
I got some good advice from Jakpro! Those DR's are the *****. I used them on a race with a Viper and gave him a good spanking. They were worth every damn penny. l have PS2's, but anyone that has owned those tires knows they have crappy traction when they get worn in. The DR's were a perfect compliment to my LSD. I did have slight rubbing when I took a corner at a high speed. Other than that......great choice Jackpro! It's so cool to get good advice on this forum. You guys rock.
