no secrets...it's a lot of the same stuff we "talk" about doing every day on the forum...except he's doing (done) it. he's a good guy and will share his thoughts if you contact him.

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, LRD4 HSE, R107 280SL
Did some calcs ... and now with 3.07

.....Stock....3.07.....2.82
1....52.4.....45.2.....49.2
2....85.9.....74.1.....80.7
3....133,4...115.1....125.3
4....188.1...162.3....176.7
5....226.6...195.6....212.9

So 3.07 is pretty agressive ... especially in 1st. There is a ~13% diff throughout... traction is definately going to suffer here unless we mod rears to 335's and cut into boot & fender.... But it should run very sweetly from a roll....

The diff housings are different ... across the board, between the SL, E, and S/CL the housings are not the same.

I believe the E500 4Matic comes with 3.07.

However, ya'll would need to double check the specifics on your cars.

Here' the first potential "gotcha" - the big hp AMG's have a "4 bolt stars" on the drivetran and axle yokes, low hp cars have three. Which may or may not be interchangeable between E-class configs (spline counts differing would be a show stopper).

Sorry for being admittably selfish ... I started trying to find a consistent silver bullet for all of the 55K's on this topic, but then I punted and followed the specific CL/S config when I realized I couldn't find an easy solution that applied to all.

For me, I get lucky that many of the drivetrain part numbers for the CL are tagged "220" - S class.

I should probably mention that my tires are higher 26.7" ... I like the idea of going to a 3.07, it indeed might be overkill for the ~25 1/4" tires on the E55.

So, in addition to the ~600 lb difference, E55's have a torque multiplication advantage stock versus stock versus my CL.
