I drove a '04 E55 CPO, 17K miles, at a dealer today, my first E55 test drive. Over rough roads, the Pano roof made clunking noises. The sales person said in his experience this was normal and kind of came with getting the Pano roof.
So I told him that would drive me nuts so I was not interested. In fact, it drove me so nuts I lost interest and didn't really test it, I have too much respect for someone elses property and time to waste it. after I knew this was not the one. He understood, and I also drove a CLS550 while I was there (over the same road it was rock solid), so it was a good trip regardless. As I'm driving home (dealer was 130 miles away) he calls me and says the '05 with 6K miles I had originally contacted him about (no Pano but otherwise well equipped) but was sold this week "had the buyer back out due to financing" so he would let me know as soon as it got back to the lot. I happen to be driving by there next week so I said I'd take a look see...
What say you on the Pano? Is that "normal" or not?
I really cannot believe it would be normal, but this M-B, BMW, Porsche dealership has an excellent rep in the area, and for the life of me I can't figure out why he would steer me away from considering that car unless he just saw bigger bucks in me if he could steer me to something different! (pssst news for him not going to happen)

The Pano Roof Should be Quiet..The Rattle you heard may be from the front wind deflector side arms touching.. or the sun shade assy seen several do that also. MB makes special lube for the Pano Roof
In Liquid...then the Normal Sunroof Paste for the rails..So Yes It (SHOULD) be quiet

It's fairly "normal." Mine rattles all the time, you can take it and and they'll take care of it but it won't be long before it starts rattling again.

Mercedes refuses to pay technicians to fix pano roofs so good luck getting them fixed!!

My 03 doesn't rattle, but then again it's only got 13650 on the clock.
Thank you all very much!
Strike Pano for me. I love the option, but....

If I had to do it again--no pano. I like the idea, but they need to make it so it doesn't make so much noise.Originally Posted by sdiver68

Turns out the left rail on mine was tweaked. Once it was replaced, no more rattles or squeeks. Took 3 trips to the dealer and second service advisor to get remedied. Cheers

I like the look of the pano but to be honest I really enjoy the feeling of being "enclosed" in a car, so I could really care less about sunroofs/moonroofs and I actually really don't like convertibles at all. They make me paranoid. The pano is a cute option but IMO I'd rather have a CF roof, and this is not a "BMW guy" thing, I just think they look cool.
