Best track setup - wheels and tires??

What is the consensus on track tires? I'm thinking of buying a set of rims and tires for that purpose. Would the HRE C22s be good or bad on the track? I assume competition means track, but you never know these days. Would a 1 piece be better? Also, what tire? I definitely am a PS2 and Advan fan on road tires, but wondered what folks liked on the track?

I wouldnt run HRE's at the track. Thats like wearing a rolex while cleaning the toilet.

If i were you, id run the stock 18s, (low weight) and throw on a good r-compound tire like the Pilot Sport Cups, or toyo ra1.

I would think that the lightest set of 18's you can find with some r-compound tires would be best.

Yeah, but the hREs are wider AND lighter than my OEM wheels. Why buy them if I don't plan to run them on a track?

Not sure about that, but they are much lighter than the OEM rims.

CCWs are about the lightest you can get and usually much lighter that HREs. Run some 18" CCWs with 245 and 275 Hoosiers. Only thing you'll have to worry about is cooking your brakes with that much grip.

Can anyone else verify the CCW weights? I love the look anyway and was leaning towards the HRE 895s (similar look) or iForged. If the CCWs are as light as you say, I need to get the final offset straight from the couple of members that have them to get 275s in front and 295s in the rear.

HRE is local to me, allowing me to do test fits till we get it right. CCW would need to have the numbers worked out in advance. That could be a sticky point, since I hate to compromise on some things.

The HRE comp series in 18's and 19's will give CCW's a run for their money weightwise. My 19 inch C21's weigh 20.50 lbs- front and rear- yes the rears are the same because of construction. I can only imagine what 18's will weigh in the C series. Of course the standard HRE series are heavier by 4 lbs or so per wheel.

for strength and weight Avus is as good or better than any of them.

They build the rims for the MB race teams.

I heard from Dragon that his Avus wheels were not even hub centric for his E55 and he dumped them 2 weeks in??? I personally have always liked their styling.

Well I placed an order for the CCW 505A. Silver centre and polished lip. (1" front and 2" rear) with the OEM AMG centre caps to fit. 255/35/19 9" and 285/30/19 10". They are forged monoblock 6061 T6 Aluminum. Very strong and light (21lbs) My car is lowered with the Kleemann ELM and John at CCW says there will be no problem with rubbing. I think the ET is 32 and 47. Comes as a package with tires and lug bolts (John wants to make sure everything is fitted and balanced properly before shipping. They have gone away from the PS 2's and are now using Bridgestones. I expect to have them in about 3 weeks.

Yeah, I prefer the looks of the 895Rs, but that extra 4lbs is itching at me to stick with the C22s. I just wish they were 5 spoke vs 6. Oh well, nothing is perfect, but i think I'll stick with the C22s. Anyone know what the OEM rims weigh? I am assuming that I am saving about 10lbs at each corner with the comp series, so giving 4 back is kind of significant to me.
