Those videos are corny. And the guy in the M5 could not drive! Dissappointing to say the least. I agree with your title.

Props to the e63, but you have to admit that "race" was a joke. It was blatantly obvious that the m5 was late to the punch. The m5 sounded sick in the video though!

M5 driver probably used launch control
I am not sure why everyone thinks that the M5 got a bad start. IMHO I think the driver used launch control which launches the M5 around 1500 rpms and minimizes wheelspin. If you have ever seen it in action, it looks pretty much like what you see in the video...

You gotta be ****ting me, the M5 was clearly still on his brakes while the E63 took off. It doesnt take a moron to realize that and yet you sat there and somehow came up with some excuse for the video being a fair comparison.

Where you there, or even in the car? ..Are you claiming that he did not use launch control? And as for the name calling... there is no need to resort to that...

Furthermore, if you watch the video cloesly you will notice that both cars brake lights go off at nearly the same time. The M5 simply doesnt launch as hard as the E63....

If my observations suck then you must be the video editor of that race.

I really dont think you should be arguing, do you know how launch control works? You know you are not supposed to use the brakes when your using the LC?

Either its slow reflexes or you are blind. Its clear who gets the jump and its a pretty nice jump at that.

And to be honest the E doesnt even launch too hard.

It was a crumby example of a race between these two cars. There are much better videos than this poor example.

Is there an entire contingent of BMW trolls who simply lie in wait until a thread concerning an AMG vs. an M-car is initiated?

If you want to nut-hug the BMW, there are other boards on which to do it.

And furthermore, the video footage from the start shows the E63 about a car and a half out on the M5. I thought the mighty M5 would have easily waltzed past the poor, overmatched, lethargic E63?

Have you ever drive either car? I have... and I can tell you the M5 DOES NOT LAUNCH HARD......

...........in the AMG line up of cars, you have E55, E63, SL65 etc. As a result an E55 owner automatically knows that his car is not the fastest in the entire world because there is an SL65 in the family. The SL65 owner knows there is an SLR. There is an intra family reality check. BMW has M5 and M6 and it is hard for the owners of these cars to understand that there are cars that are faster. They are not likely to run into an SL65 or an E55 or an enzo in their daily driving. As a result every car they run into, they are able to blow away so they have this false sense of invincibility. BMW should make an M7.

Looks to me like both cars were off the brakes at the same time. Maybe the driver in the M5 just can't launch.

In any event, it looks like they were running a 0-60 mph test, in which case, it didn't matter how much later the M5 left. Having said that, it sure doesn't look like the M5 could have only been .1 second behind in reaching 60. But we have to take their word for it.

As for engine sounds, I love the sound of the E63. Reminds me of my C5Z06.

I thought this was a test of the new 6 speed M5? If so, no launch control. Just plain old driver skill.

the driver in the M5 was a little slow to go

all this proves is that they are both fast

I think the reaction time might have been 0.25 slow for the M5...as you can see in later frames, the M5 is only 1/4 car away at 20-30mph then gets pulled hard...probably 2.5 cars to the finish. I am not sure a rematch or street race would be much difference. E > M and E > Mc^2
