Transmission issues...I think
My car (05 55 12k miles) use to stay in manual mode or at least hold a gear in sport when a downshift was applied. Now it will automatically shift into a higher gear 2nd to 3rd or even 4th without any driver input in both S and M mode (no throttle input either). I have also noticed when I select Manual mode it will switch over to Sport again without my input. Is this normal or am I nutz?
Any help or explanation is appreciated.

I have recently encountered this exact problem myself. I drive in manual mode 80% of the time, and as of a couple of weeks ago, it has started kicking me out of manual mode and back into sport mode. I will put it back into manual, and sometimes it may stay for a minute, but it will always revert back to sport mode. One day, I could not even select manual mode - it would toggle between sport and comfort only.
Yesterday, I was driving in sport mode and pinned the throttle while cruising at 45mph. The transmission downshifted, yet NO throttle was physically applied to the engine. I kept cruising at 45 with my foot to the floor.
To the stealership I go - unless anyone has some insight into this. It sounds expensive.
Note: I do have Renntech software (although I highly doubt it is the culprit)

this may help with your M to S mode issue. it could also be a software issue as MB Forever stated.

Just thought I would bring everyone up to date on the solution to my "transmission problem". The source of the issue was the engine oil temp sensor. No engine warning light was tripped, to my surprise, but it did cause the ECU to enter into safe mode. I hope this helps anyone else with similar diagnostic challenges!

Glad everything was taken care of. I knew it had to be a sensor or software issue.
