997 Turbo Fever

I am thinking about trading in my 06 E55 for a 997 Turbo.
What do you guys think?
The E55 has been a great car and is the best in it's class in my opinion, but I have never been to excited about modding the car since it is not truly a "sports" car in the classic sense. Don't get me wrong, the E has a lot of potential but I have never figured out how to take about 500 lbs. off it's *** .
I stopped by the Porche dealership of Hilton Head SC yesterday and they can get me one at MSRP. I have not seen any at a discount thus far and don't expect to for at least another 6-9 months when the 08's come out.
BTW they had a GT3 and a GT sitting on the floor, both owned by Ken Griffey Jr.!! Both Black and WOW!!!
The GT3 was the biggest surprise though. That car looks better than just about anything else on the road right now including most of the other exotics
Sooooo... would you guys take the leap to the 997 Turbo?

E55
Either car is great. To me, the main deciding factor is if you needed the rear seats and the second deciding factor is if you want more of a sport car. I agree with you that even though the E55 is fast and can be modded it is a sedan.

Does the one you looked at have the options for Tiptronic S automatic transmission and/or the Sport Chrono Package Turbo!!

I also loved the GT3 since I see them at the track all the time and I do some road race. They look great and eat the track up easily. But I don't think it will be as pleasant a ride on the street compare to the 997 turbo for the ride and for the turbo. GT2 will be really nice since I'm biased to boost and power.

I don't think I would committ to MSRP just yet. Some guys on 6speed have done better.

SL65
I've been contemplating trading the E55 as well, but I can't think of what else to get. I've thought about the 997TT but I think I would get tired of the rougher ride very quickly. Especially considering I injured by back some years ago. I'm leaning toward SL65 as they can be picked up for next to nothing these days. But then I'm back to my not liking 2 door cars. They feel so small and as soon as you get one you'll find yourself needed the other 2 doors for something or the other. Sigh

The ride on the new Turbo is smooth enough for every day. If you want to stay automatic then it is a great choice. However, if you're going stick-shift then I would get the GT3 as the turbo makes it hard to drive slow. Stunning, and one of the few cars that looks best in white. The PASM means it rides a lot better then the 996 GT3 which I found far to stiff for roaduse to be able to drive quickly in safety (it was a my track car though so didn't matter)

The SL65 shout is a good one- as you can see by my signature. If you only need two proper seats then go for one of the P-cars (which has more room in the back than an Aston) or the SL. They are three of the few cars you could trade your 55 for and be pleased you did it.

I drove an SL55 and a 997 C4S at Park Place last week and came to the conclusion that my CL55 has a heck of a nice ride and the SL might be a good replacement but I'm afraid that cabin will seem too small in a short period of time.
So many cars, so little time.

Turbo all the way if you do not need the rear seats. Any other PCar besides a gt3 or cgt will leave you wanting.

Damnit why do you have to go do this post I just talked myself out of dumping my E55 in December for a 997TT. I had a sweet stage III 996TT and while I miss it I realized the advancements in the chassis and comfort were so good in the 997TT that I had to consider one. But then Xmas came and I bought the wife some flippin diamonds and I curbed my desire.

But now I am thinking again. Plus having a CL65 has rejuvenated my turbo envy- even though FI is nice with my 55!

Here are some recent auction sales on the 997TT:

01/04/07 RIVRSIDE Regular $133,000 668 Avg BLACK 6G M Yes
01/04/07 RIVRSIDE Regular $132,000 1,225 Avg BLACK 6G M Yes
12/07/06 RIVRSIDE Lease $122,000 4,327 Below SILVER 6G 6 Yes
10/11/06 MANHEIM Regular $132,500 1,558 Avg GRAY Yes
07/27/06 MANHEIM Regular $133,000 103 Avg YELLOW 6G 6 Yes

Here's what's coming to me in May - Slate grey/black with some additional leather and CF.

I had an E55 K2 and loved it. Sold it last March for my '06 997S and have never regretted it. Neither the E nor the p-car is my daily driver, although I put a fair amount of miles on both of them (the 997 has a little over 10K in 8 months).

I have driven the 997S on several trips of a couple of hundred miles at a time. It is surprisingly comfortable. The seats are awesome. The TT is even more comfortable and "civilized", much to the horror of some of the purists. The GT3 is an awesome car but even with it's improved ride over the 996 I think it may still be a bit too hard core for the amount of miles I put on the car. Especially since there are a lot of long trips. I agree that the GT3 is one of the best looking cars I've ever seen. Better looking than the TT but i've seen some TT's with GT3 wheels or other, and lowered and it is wicked looking.

I would not get the tip but that's a personal thing. PDK will be here soon and that I would consider but like the stick.

As far as pricing, getting better than sticker will be difficult in the major markets in my opinion for a bit longer. Yeah there are exceptions and there are also BSers.

ohh thats nice love the yellow calipers! but E552006 if you dont get a CGT then dont waist you time most and i say most p-cars are missing something in the looks department for that kinda cash.IMO.

Yeah it's tough not to like this car.
Currently the market is seeing used 997 TT's at or just below retail.
Although below retail may be available, I have yet to hear anyone say they have purchased one for below retail. I think you probably have to know someone at a dealership, like the owner

This is where patience has to overcome desire, at least for me. When the 996TT came out I nearly jumped at it in 2001 but luckily I wasnt compensated enough to overcome my roadblocks. I then got a 2003 996TT in 2004 and saved a ton of money. In fact I got it so cheap I was able to sell it in August of this year for 85k. I am trying to hold out on the 997TT and it let the market correct a little or a lot (I hope) and then get it. Money is not the problem anymore but I still dont want to buy it today and find out in one year that its worth much much less (below estimated depreciation).

I hate the thought of dumping an E55 for anything, but a Pcar is a heck of an upgrade. True that, the E55 is not a sports car. But, that doesn't mean mods are no fun in it. You actually get quite the bang for the buck on the ride. Also, to me, there is just something special about hanging with most super cars in real world situations...all while holding a cup of coffee and having two baby seats in the back. It is simply the most anti-purist ride out there. A complete anomaly in that respect.
As for the Pcars, the TT vs GT3 is just such a dichotomy for me. The TT is just too civil for a "sports" car of that caliber. Mainly due to the all wheel drive. It makes it safer and allows the most novice of drivers to haul nuts (definition of civil). The GT3, on the other hand, is lacking in power. GREAT chassis, but not enough power. That is where the good old GT2 comes into play, except that P-cars do the phasing thing. By the time the GT2 is available, we will already be drooling over the next generation.
All in all, I feel your pain. You simply can't go wrong, however. I'm not considering dumping the E, but I have been eyeing a GT3 for quite some time. Each time I almost do it, I find some excuse to back out. It simply has not been right, yet...

This kind of $$ build it from scratch EXACTLY the way you want it. It's pretty nicely optioned as the basic car but there are some options that are really nice. If you need help in sorting thru Porsche's vast (and pricey) list of options, let me know. I've committed the entire order book to memory
