What Quick E55 said is right.. looking at this lousy picture I took, you can see the stock wheel with the swtiches out, and the Renntech wheel with the swtiches in, it looks like the 63 paddles should fit in that large cutout of the wheel.
Also here is my DIY to remove the wheel..

So what are you saying? 2005-06' E55 have updated electronics and will therefore have the capabilities of handling the E63 paddles?
The 1 Million dollar question is will the E63 paddles work on an E55 application and if yes which year and what modifications are needed if any?

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, LRD4 HSE, R107 280SL
I got the MP designs sport version and its going to be a tricky fit - you can make it work with some nuts and bolts if you have to ... but if teh electronics are different then I am not so sure ...
That E63 paddle shift sure is one of the nicest features...

I am working with my tech at MB to see if he can make it work. If the eletronics is different this might be a lost cause. Not sure what he can do for me but I am willing to give it a try... Crossing my fingers.....

Everyone,
Unfortunatley, Steve is correct. it does not work in my car. I was with my Tech today looking at the paddle. The original button has a 2 pin connector and the 63 paddle has a 3 pin connector. But the 63 paddle only uses 2 wires just like the 55 button. We rigged it in a way that we connected the paddle to the connector. Started up the engine, put the car in drive and started to try to shift. The car recongnizes the paddle and shifts down but as soon as I let go of the paddle it shifts right back up to D. So that left us scratching our heads. My tech took both the 63 and 55 paddles and is going to try and see how the circuits work. He is going to give me a call in a few days... doesn't look too promising BUT its worth a try..... ill keep everyone posted...

Can I be first in line to buy your paddles if you can't get them to work?

Width wise, they can fit but length wise you will need to do some cutting. But just a little bit... I'll keep you informed about the paddles. Me and my tech are trying a few other things......

LOL,
I just know there is some AMG engineer reading this thread and laughing his a$$ off thinking, " those fools didn't adjust the thingamajig and are missing a doohicky..." I am sure it's something very simple like a small toggle switch that tells it to stay in gear ... why not take an E63 apart to see ... Or beter yet buy the 63

Settle down man, It was a joke. I actually thought that gluing the peddles like the other post was a good idea and did the same thing. I think the 55 is much of an enthusiast car than th 63 myself.

No worries bro, i was just messing too... I actually have the SMG paddles ready to glue on to the buttons if they didn't work. The 63 paddles are such better quality and OEM. So I thought i'd give it a shot. Still got hope that these will work but worse comes to worse, I have the SMG paddles i will dremel down and glue onto the buttons...

hey Christian, would it be possible to retrofit the button itself in to the current casing? like physically removing the actuall paddle portion from the 64 paddle assembly and retrofitting that in to the 55 electronics portion?

After about an hour fiddling around with the buttons and paddle my tech decided to take them home and fiddle around with it there as he didn't want to get in trouble with his shop foreman. He is going to call me in a few days and let me know how it comes out. He's really good at that stuff so hopefully he will be able to transfer the inerds of 55 button into the 63 paddle... crossing my fingers!

I bet you will get that to work, and then, I bet... you have a new product on your hands son...
X-tian-230k and tech friend's E63 55 paddles... selling for 175 the set? lol
Im suprised no one has sent this to get made yet, they fab turbo kits but no paddle shifters?
BTW not to go off topic, what happened to the E55 TT project?

Someone just has done it!!
As some of you know, I placed an order for the AMG Performance Steering Wheel(with aluminum paddles) for my CLK. The problem was that the whole wiring and airbag system was different. 2 Pin setup vs. 3 Pin setup. So I sold the wheel to a local shop and the owner of the shop actually got it to work with our 2 pin connectors. So this means that you guys can also get the paddles work with your steering wheel with some modification. Keep trying.
As I said before, it is not an easy work.
