would you spend 30-40k to put a new stock 55 in it or 25k for a ls7 twin-turbo z06 engine with a getrag 6 speed? i know its sacralidge but a 6 speed 850hp e might not be bad after its depreciated a whole lot.
I'd personally scrap it and get a new ride. if you really wanna go nutty and keep it, get salvaged 65 motor. I can't imagine the cost of getting all the electronics sync'd up in the first place, much less putting an american motor in there.
Even if a person did his/her own fabrication and installation, I don't think you could get the LS7 parts for just $25,000.
An LS7 crate engine lists for $17,500 but you can find them for $12,500 retail. An APS twin turbo kit lists for $10,000 but you can find them for $9,000. A high torque 6 speed Getrag tranny? I don't know; maybe $6,000? That's $27,500 and you haven't even purchased all the other parts parts, e.g. the clutch pedal assembly.

damn! why to rain on my parade. i had an 06 z06 and it was just sooooo much fun. just get the power train from a wrecked z06 then get driveline shop make me a driveshaft. i can do the work except for the electronics which would be a pain im sure. might be fun to row an e though. got an idea from vrus (shocker) to twin turbo an mb v12. just a thought as my 03 only has 10k but thinking about going the head job and vrus route and renntech upg. just thinking down the line when the pistons come through the block what would i do next.

But following the notion of in for a pence, in for a pound, I'd suggest expanding your vision to a 1,000 HP LS2/LS7 engine with a bona fide racing transmission. The engine and tranny alone would cost you something more like $75,000 +/-. On top of that you'd still have the other part plus fabrication and installation but, man, what a shockingly fast sleeper it would be!
As an aside, I just bought a 500 HP LS1 engine from a guy who is doing what I just described: installing a 1,000 HP twin turbo LS2 engine. It's going into an F Body car (Trans AM) so it won't be a sleeper but it will be pretty doggone quick.

LOL. Yeah, once you hear the sirens singing, you're pretty much trapped.

i know like i said in the beginning its sacralidge but the ls7's are no just some ole' chevy engine. they are each ahnd built by pratt & miller with a signed engine tag ala amg, forged everything, sodium filled valves, dry sump lube, all aluminum etc.
its just a thought as most ls7's produce around 550 and not 505 like the factory claims from many dynos from the vette forums. an extra 250 isnt crazy.
or maybe like someone else said to put than in a slk would be fun too!

FWIW, companies that have dyno tested the LS7 on the bench (e.g. Katech) have confirmed the number really is 505 HP +/- 1.5%. If you care to read more about the arguments in both directions, this is a pretty comprehensive thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1589123.
What wheels and tires are you using on the Supra, if you don't mind me asking?

Ask away dude, this is a car forum and that's what we're here for. I'm using custom HRE "Mistakes", they're 847 19's, 9.5 up front and 11 in the rear with Pirelli PZero rubber, 315 in the rear. Still not nearly enough to hook up in just about any gear. 15lbs of boost is nigh suicide and total breakup material if the GF is in the car. Hell I can't even get my M5 to hook up on NJ roads, and its stock. I should have gone with 18's on the sup but the 19's look so sick. Pictures of the car and engine are coming, look for them in Off Topic because we don't have a subcategory for "Fire breathing monsters that tear holes in time."
