I don't know what the 20s will do, but I wouldn't hesitate to race anybody. I don't mind getting worked. I'm definitely not scared of a stock E63, though.

Do a rolling race- your twenties are not that heavy- similar to stock if you have the Maya STM's.

I agree (DO IT)....this would settle this once and for all.

Snag the races on video, post um on The Tube or Google and take your place in AMG history.

If the triangle doesn't bite, you should take the drag, but it's the rolls that really would be worth the price of admission.

We're begging you to do this!!! PLEEEAAASSEEEE!!!

It isn't the 20s that will hurt you, if anything. What is your overall diameter of the tire? If you ended up bigger than stock, your gearing is what may hurt. As others said, the weight and even the concentration of that weight being farther out of the center is not going to be a huge factor.

Inertia and rotational mass are factors but it depends on how much more weight. On my W210 I could clearly tell the difference between my 19inch AMG's and 19inch BBS's at launch but not as much during rolling runs. The weight difference was about 6 lbs at each corner which was 24 lbs of unsprung weight or about 100 lbs of sprung weight (100 lbs in your cabin so-to-speak). But the greater factor was the getting the thing rolling. Of course this was on a 210 with only (I say that lightly) 391 lb/ft of torque.

In PGF's situation I dont think the wheel factor is going to make too much of difference beacuse of his plus size set up and his wheels weigh about the same if not less than OEM's.

Now that we all have invested our time on this, PGF you are hereby ordered to conduct said race and post the time so I and others can witness

Race him while it is brand new to him since he may not know how and if he can put it in first gear. Secondly, this may benefit you since other are seeing that over 1000's of miles the E63 becomes faster. that is ... if these are true.

Do it from the roll to take away the refinement advantage of the E63. that is ... if that is true.

Put it in soft suspension and S mode. You may consider downshifting yourself to put it in first so you don't have to wait for the tranny to shift for you.

Put some race gas or I usually put some Redline SL1 Injection cleaner. It seems to make my car "feel faster consistently."

Make sure it is not too cold or moist out. Will hurt your torque.

Mostly, just have fun. Think of anything you can do to win. Then if you lose, it doesn't really matter just do some upgrades and both the E55 and E63 are amazing cars to win in or lose to. It's not like you have to worry about losing to an Integra. LOL

why would you put the suspension in soft seeting, don't you want it in the stiffer setting? S mode, setting 2 in suspension= one mad E55, heheheh

I usually like stiffer suspension settings since I like road racing and taking turns. But for straight line racing and no turning, you want the fastest weight transfer. So technically, we want the front to be as soft as possible and the rear to be as stiff as possible. It appears for our airmatic and from people's experience, this equate to the softest suspension setting for our car to help with weight transfer for planting the power to the rear tires.

Cheers

2005 E55
He is referring to S for trans mode and comfort for suspension. The softer suspension mode allows for a better weight transfer during acceleration.
