RE050A and RE050A Pole Position are quite different + my tire setup for e63
Guys,
I'm thinking about tire/rim upgrade. Since I'm not going to upgrade the brakes, the "jangy route" of sticking with the 18s seems like the best bet. One thing i noticed while browsing around wheels in tire rack, they separate the RE050A and the RE050A Pole Position. These two are quite different in terms of customer survey rank (link: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...y.jsp?type=MP).
The regular RE050A is ranked 7th while the Pole Position is ranked 1st. The odd thing is the RE050A Pole Position doesn't come in 255/35 ZR19 and 285/30 ZR19. Only the regular RE050A has those sizes.
Because of this, maybe its actually better to stick with the 18s (thanks to jangy for his idea). With the 18s, the RE050A Pole Position comes in the size of 265/35 ZR18 and 295/30 ZR18. Perfect!
So inspired by jangy, the setup for the e63 will be:
CCW 505A (gunmetal painted centers, just like kiwie55amg's) $2600 + (4x$75 custom painted centers) = $2900
F: 265/35 ZR18 93Y SL Brigestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position 2 x $215 = $430
R: 295/30 ZR18 98W XL Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position 2 x $263 = $526
Total: $2900 + $430 + $526 = $3856
Also, this setup's rolling diameter:
F: 25.2" (vs. stock 25.7")
R: 24.9" (vs. stock 25.3")
Front and rear has a difference of .3", that's .1" less than stock setup.
Stock tire weights 24lb front and 25lb rear
RE050A tire weights 28lb front and 32lb rear (much heavier!)
Stock rim weights approx 28lb front and 32lb rear
CCW505A should weight around 19lb front and 22lb rear
so approx weight saving:
= ((2x(24lb+28lb)) + (2x(25lb+32lb))) - ((2x(19lb+28lb)) + (2x(32lb+22lb)))
= ((2x52lb)+(2x57lb)) - ((2x47lb)+(2x54lb))
= (104lb + 114lb) - (94lb + 108lb)
= 218lb - 202lb
= 16lb!!
Oh and i do not intend on lowering the car, it will remain stock. So i think theoretically, after researching for a while in this board, this setup will definitely work.

Awesome. What are the offsets? Is CCW comfy with 295s as long as you roll with the bridgestones? I saw the issues with running PS2s and wondered if they were adjusting the offset to compensate at all or if yours will be the same as the E55 ones out there currently?

I am not sure about the offsets actually. I e-mailed John 2 days ago, still waiting for his reply. I think it should be similar to your setup right?
F: ET39 265/35 ZR18 18x9
R: ET35 295/30 ZR18 18x10
I think with 295s should work with CCW whether brigestone or not, not sure though. I think vrus put a 295 before on his SP500 although they are 19 inchers.
What where the issues with running 295 PS2s with CCW wheel? Is it about the wiggle with Torquey55's 295 PS2s?
I just found out one thing though. Staying with the CCW 18 inchers + Bridgestone tires, the rear wheel revolution per mile increase from stock 824 to 837. That's 13 extra revolution to get a mile distance. One revolution allows you to travel about 6.5 feet (3.14x25"). With this setup, I'm loosing about 84.5 feet of travel distance per mile. So if i travel 100 mile, i could've travel 8450 feet (1.6 mile) more with stock tire.
I guess that 1.6 mile is almost negligible, but in the long run it can still accumulate.

Damn... might have to settle with the 19s after all...

That's my EXACT set-up and it is GREAT!! CCW is the most AWESOME Customer Service oriented company I've ever experienced!!!
I've lowered my front a little and the set-up profile is BEAUTIFUL!!
When you talk to John or Chip @CCW, please tell them I think they are the BEST!!!
You will marginally lose performance but the look and stance of the car will leave a smile on your face EVERYDAY!!! BTW-The 050A tires are top quality, first rate, and I'll take them over PS2's EVERYTIME!!!! (I had PS2's and the "wiggle" was downright DANGEROUS at high speeds!! )

E63 brake is the same size. Our OEM rims are 18s and CCW made a set of 16s that were for drag racing that fit on the E55 rear, so why do 18s not work? That is odd.
HRE definitely sells 18" rims that fit.

I think the 505A spokes curve near the outer edge of the rim that it might interfere with the stock amg brake calipers, as you can see in this image
Well in order to stay with the 18s, I'm actually looking at the C14 profile from CCW. It's popular among corvettes, bmw m3s, porches and lancer evolution. I'm wondering if this will suit the E63... what do u think?
