55 I hate to say it but your post says it all. I know a few guys with Z0's. They can and do have whatever they want. They have one of these in their stable. They aren't getting destroyed on resale yet either. You can bet with a small production run they will sell each one...and they will hold their value. I don't know how many E55's were built per year but man they seem to be taking a heavy beating. I wish I had bought a ZO6 sometimes......until I hop in my car and take a ride. I love my 55 !!!

This car proves how desperate GM is.... there is no doubt they will release a $150,000 version with 800hp soon
I'd rather pay $20k less and buy a supercharged Cadillac XLR than a $115k vette. That's firmly in the category of "no-brainer", far as I'm concerned. There aren't enough "track days" in the season for me to care about the circle-track performance advantages of a Z06, unless it's a used one that can be had for a hella discount.

While it may be true that the XLR's will be to 10 years from now what the Allante's are to today in styling terms (see the inside of an Allante lately? horrid), the "v-series" supercharged cars are truly distinctive looking cars and they dolled up the interior with premium materials substantially-enough over the stock models that these are gonna be serious off-lease bargains in a few years. And being the same platform as the Chevy, how bad could the ride be by comparison, especially with the 1-man, 1-engine thing they're doing now too. XLR-V is like an AMG vette!!! And there ain't nothin' at all wrong with that.

sorry for the baseless topical veering.

Did you buy a car to fit in and make friends or enjoy it?

I love my E55, but I also love my Corvette. Totally different uses for each of them and I think the people you encountered are the minority of owners.

just first impressions are the worst impressions if your crusing around in your yellow Z06. I mean would't you have a bad first impression if some guy came to pick up your daughter (if you have one) in a camo 89 astro van withe the license plate SHaGN WGN? He could be a great guy. But you would be like uh oh. And there you are PRE-judging before you even met him.
damn I forgot to take a pic of my CL600.
it is obsidian black with the savanah/cashemere interior. My dealer (loeber motors in Lincolnwood IL) told me it was the only one of that color combo in the states.
sorry charlie, i've already seen 2 of the same color out here on the westside of LA. they might not have been '600s, but then again, 550, 600; whose paying attention to that little badge on the trunk? they all look identical until you slap the AMG bodyskirts on there, and without the AMG skirts the '07 CL's look like bloated melted plastic rehashing of the 80's SEC front-end, done wrong.

no matter how much you paid for it (and given it's a CL600, you undoubtedly paid a lot), you probably look to most people like a chump who overpaid for an ugly car just because it's got the little 3-pointed star on it. not much different of an impression than the one you have of them in their cheesedyck sports cars.

on the other hand, i thought your stereotype of the hairy-necked guys pulling into fast-food joints was hilarious and pretty spot-on with my experience out at car events in AZ, etc. and the thing about the "yellow corvette" was also very well said. who the hell buys a yellow vette anyway? what kind of desperation drives someone to buy yellow for attention when red would at least preserve their dignity? yellow's ok on school buses, beetles and scion xB's. (oh yeah, on vipers too!) otherwise, it's inappropriate. we can certainly agree on that!

You need BOTH! an evil torque possesed E55k, & C6, or C6 Z06 Trust me you'll love it...You almost feel like an outlaw, and funny thing, I drive like an *** sometimes, upshifting then down waiting for the crackle and evil burble on decelleration, cops pay me NO MIND, they've even giving the and grinns when passing me or along side the road passing them writing citations, they look up point and give the wave too cool..

dude, that's a great story. now you're making me want one of these as a driver, you b*stard!!!

seriously, though, i agree with most of what you say but i'd make an exception for the "collector's edition" silver 1996 coupe, which i think is really a thing of beauty. i may make an exception for it yet, and put one in my garage someday, notwithstanding how bucket o' bolts the c4's are...

are the C6's easy/cheap to lease?

Awesome! Keeping the E or swapping it for the Z06?

As far as mods, the sky's the limit I'd jump right in with some turbos if I were you, can't believe I waited this long to do it to my car.

All you guys talking about exclusive yada yada yada... please... AMG Benz or not you can barely tell the difference from a regular base C-class... They all look alike to the normal person. If you want exclusive/exotic buy a ferrari/lambo or even a viper and you will turn the heads 10000X more than you would in your $100k+ Benzo....
or, buy a very clean older car (like a w108, which are plentiful and CHEAP to buy/own) and heads will turn as well. it's working for me!!! much better than the e55 ever did, btw.

as for the depreciation, 2 year old $100k sticker selling for 50-60k, not 60-70. sad, isn't it?

Jimand7 or whatever he's called... is he related to MashedPotatoes? btw, is it just me, or are we still waiting for photographic evidence of all those great cars of his, like that "one-of-a-kind" 2007 CL600?

From what I've read, seen from other C6 Z06 owners, swap out the factory air intake, (junk) guys are seeing 20+ rwhp gain on CAI alone, then headers, and bi-pass the fuse for the exhaust(leaves it open full time) better sound MORE POWER! Then a good tune all together 45-65 rwhp gains, for about 2k installed.

Now if you want to go further head, cam, packages can be had for $4500+ how does 550rwhp sound? from the factory w/****y intake there putting down--445-470 rwhp 435-450 rwto if you go w/twins? you really wont break the 600 rwhp mark w/out some forging.

Can you imagine Jimand7's 12 step "Cheese Dix" program/group?

First meeting......"Hi my names Jimand, and I'm a Cheese dik"....... clapping, then a guy in back flicks his lighter to show support

I don't doubt they will sell them, and I do like the car. It just will not have the materials and build quality to justify the price. Performance is obvious, no arguement there. It's just that I have NEVER paid sticker price or more for any car, and if I ever do, it won't be for a Chevy. I didn't look too hard, but there is more than one dealer in the area that still wants 96-97K for a new one. Even M.S.R.P is too much, it's a Chevy fer Chissakes!!! I think the SC model is going to beat down the prices on all other C6's. Then, that will be the time to buy. I can wait.

the car and hood are exceptional, but yellow still reeks a bit much of mid-life midwife crisis to me. just an opinion, though. hell, if you pulled up in something that hot and yellow (like the dude on here with the yellow viper, f'rinstance), i'd be as bowled over as the next guy, so it's not like i'm slamming greatness. besides, having the car shows good taste and character; the color is secondary.

that's even worse, because the desperation of the color is amplified by the sticker price! I have a colleague in the office; we're both car-guys. He's acquainted with one of the sales guys at a dealership in the valley that sells exotics, and he's been told by the salesman that young guys come in, buy a lambo or ferrari for somewhere in the $300k range, drive it for a couple of months and then they're back, trading it in and losing about $100k on the trade, because the car is too much for LA streets, and too little to be practical.

That said, and notwithstanding that those cars are cool to look at, my opinion of yellow lambo's is that they usually have a chump behind the wheel.

unless you're jay leno, or you are living in autobahn land where speed limits are nonexistent and the roads are exceptionally well-maintained, those cars are just showboats for people who can't think of anything better to spend their money on. i'd rather have a tuned up vette or SL55 or something (yeah, even a yellow one if you insist) because it would at least be suited for the reality of the everyday driving experience around here (i.e. on the continent of North America).

GREAT PICS.....it looks like they are trying the old 1970 Pontiac muffler bypass set ups. It was called V.O.E. on a 70 GTO but they sold very few...vacuum bypassed some baffles for a louder rumble...kind of silly.
