I wouldn't know about the CLS, but check out the image of the cooling system that Yacht Master posted. You can follow the plumbing in your own car and compare it to the image to be certain.

Victor or anyone else,
Do you have any pictures of the stock set-up (pic of the front end of the car with the bumper off) for comparison purposes..

SLR style intercoolers are the holy grail

SLR style intercoolers are the holy grail
Just some photos of the intercoolers and not much more, yes there is a V8 engine under all that.

My first impression was that the SLR coolers were smaller than I had imaged and the plumbing was larger than I had imaged, imagine that.

It is a custom one. Not the best of quality, actually. I was thinking to maybe see if they could fab one for the E55. I only want to undertake the project if we have a need. If not, I'll move on to the mods I actually have specs on.

Has anyone just fitted the extra exchanger from the W220 ?

This seems to be a pretty simple install .... space permitting?

I am a little concerned about having too fat a heat exchanger infront of the engine radiator ... this could cause engine termps to suffer instead of IAT's - think this will need to be a bit of a balancing act !!!

Anyone have a clue what the fluid volume is of the W220 h/e is and its part number ?

Insignificant... The main radiator won't even know it's their. The fans will activate accordingly.

Been there done that. The words Heat soak are no longer in my vocabulary.

"Cool" Finny ... If I remember correctly you had a custom unit fabricated? You would not know the W220 heat exchanger part number would you?

Anyone?

My ASP pulley gets IATS to around 50deg C over ambient. With ambients getting into the mid 20's now its getting to tha marginal stage already I think, so this will have to be done - one way or another.

I am having one fabricated as we speak, you are right on the money...as per my MB mechanic he said the front radiator won't even know that there is something in front, as the fan will activate when it needs to. Can't wait to try this out!!

Like everyone else said.. there is no issue to putting the heat exchanger in front of the rad..

My parts are still in transit from Europe... One of the shops I used to help me with this kit has been dragging his feet on getting me the initial pieces.. I got an airway bill Tracking # but no parts yet..

I'll post some detailed pics of what I put together once they arrive... any day now..

Finally, finally, finally... After waiting 2 months my first intercooler kit, transmissions cooler kit, and other tidbits landed in Toronto today!!!!!!

I am going to pick them up tonight and will post all kinds of details for you guys later this evening once I have everything in my hands...

I made a big mistake outsourcing the heat exchanger components (tranny & intercooler) to a company in Europe.. It took way too long to get done and very difficult to track people down and get information back. Very stressful!!

Now, in order to reproduce these kits, I am going to deal with either a USA or CDN company to make the heat exchangers.. The CNC pieces I will do here locally..

Once I know how many kits are required, I can provide accurate pricing..

More to come later this evening when I upload the pics.

You really have to have a stomach of steel to deal with vendors some times... I picked up my box the other night expecting to have both pieces in there but I only received the transmission cooler components... The cooler was made a bit thinner and the outlet locations were changed for better clearance.

ARRGGGHH... My frontmount is still M.I.A... on the phone to Europe again in the morning..

Spearco, Griffin and Ron Davis are all on the list.. I need a good vendor in the USA or Canada that can build to my specs.. That is once I can get my original prototype to show up.

These mods have already been tested!

They have been running on a 700hp SL55 over in Europe. And, there is someone on this board with a 640hp setup on a SL55 with a similar setup.

I am installing on my car soon.. I've got a whack of stuff sitting in boxes that needs to be installed but they have to be done in certain order so I can complete the dependent projects first.
