E63 or S550 ?
I was waiting on some service today and took a test drive in a new S550. It was about as I expected...just a notch up from my S500 but nice. Then there was this E63 AMG that kept giving me the look..then I got that old tingle...I had to give it a go. Jade Green Metalic on Cashmere Leather..OMFG!!!
Power...deep in your bag power. The speed builds like a jet fighter off a carrier deck. The drive is smooth but you know it can be brutal if it needs to be. This car is a mighty warrior that can also be as civilized as any.
It's just me and my wife now and rear seat passengers are a rare event and...it's about $12K less than a sport pack S550!!! My wife and I are at odds.
I guess the question is...can a 54 year old man justify owning a car that really belongs in the hands of a man 15~20 years younger? She thinks I'm nuts....cause it would be primarily her car. Would she embarassed to drive it (she's 48 but looks 35) or is it that she's afraid of what she saw that car do to me?
I might be in trouble on this one.
I guess it all comes back to two things...choices....and consequences.

to be honest, i think the s-class will fit your age a lot better.... why do you need the speed and sportier look of a E63 anyway... u are not gonna race it or whatever.... and face the fact, you are not gonna look cool in it anyway.... why dun you get a car with more safety and comfort while having more than enough power?
by the way, ur wife looks like age 35.. that's just your opinion... even if she does, someone age 35 still looks better in a s550....

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a 50 something dude in an E. If the S550 just felt like a bump from your S500, then NO WAY!! You are screaming for the E63. It is the perfect blend of all. The S550 is flashier, but the E63 is just clean.
The great thing is that the car can be everything to everyone. It can be as tame as a ***** cat for your wife and as mean as a bear when you want it to be.
I say go for the E. Up to you. in the end, you get one heck of a car. I was actually pondering the same question on my ride home tonight and I came to the conclusion that the E63 was a better buy.
Last thing, you are comparing retail to retail, but fact is the E is being had at some major discounts, while the S is not. Get the final numbers and I bet the choice is even easier to make.
p.s. screw the CLS. It screams "WANNA BE SPORTS CAR". The e is just the E, like it always has been. The fact that it also has a 500hp engine is just cream on the top.

In your defense, when people come on here making claims on the looks of their gf / wifes, we do ususally require the picture session.

An E63 is like we old guys would LIKE to be; completely pedestrian on the outside but incredibly powerful under the hood. Well, at least my CAR now has power under the hood.
Funny, my wife also didn't like the CLS (she hates chrome and the body shape just doesn't do anything for her). We could have bought an S550 but I really consider the E63 "special".
Good Luck, you only live once.

I overheard some guys talking not long ago at the marina...18 is the new 30 and 40 is the new 25...so 55 must be the new 35...I dunno.I listen to Pink Floyd and Dave Mathews.

2006 CLS55 AMG
I thought about a S-class sedan prior to purchasing my E55. However S-classes are everywhere and the AMG cars are special, limited automobiles that have the potential to be worth a lot more years from now to enthusiasts. Take the 500E for example. That car still commands a decent amount of money compared to a 560SEL of the same model year. I definitely would love to own a 500E, but I don't feel the same way about the 560SEL. Get the E63......you definitely can't go wrong with an AMG car. Just my opinion.

I say go with the E63 for sure. If you don't I think you will regret it, not because the new S550 isn't great, but because it sounds like the E will be plenty comfortable for you while having that edge that the S lacks. That is the appeal of the E, it can play in both worlds. If you haven't had a chance, read ChicagoX's writeup that is stickied in the W211 forum mainpage.
Plus, you have had an S-class, sure the new one is hot, but not like the e63. Try an E for a change, you will be hooked. The amount of comfort that you will give up will easily be made up for by the 500-odd hp on call at all times.
Don't worry about the age thing, either way you are getting a new Mercedes, the E63 is a classy ride. No one should be embarrassed about that, although you might have more young guys hittin' on her if she has the E.
So go get that E63, post the pics and tell us all thank you for helping you make the choice you wanted to make anyways.

I would say go for the E63, but you are posting this topic in the W211 AMG forum, if you don't have this post duplicated on the S forum, I think you have already subconsciously made up your mind....
