E55 vs. E63 since release have views changed?
well it's been a few good months now, as i remember the big fuss when e63 came out and real numbers weren't up to published in some people's experiences.
now that time has gone by, and miles been put on, any different views on the e63 vs. e55?

Not really. Haven't seen enough real data (timeslips) to see how it really compares in a straight line.
I am sure that if i owned an E63, I would love it. So it isn't a knock on the car. But if people are of the view that the E55 is a faster car up to 120 mph, the only thing that will change that view is a good sampling of slips for E63s.
So E63 owners - hit the strip!!!

they run about the same stock vs stock... (based on real 1/4 numbers and mag test)
I rather take less tq for a bit smoother power band and better top end pull
improved brakes and a bit better steering and handling would be nice all..
conclusion.. I'm getting one next year or maybe a C63.
I'm done with the mods on my E or C. Kompressor engines sound cool, but they are a pain to deal.
in all.. AMG produced a nice package with the E63 or ClS63.. but I was hoping for a faster sedan than the outgoing E55 model.

Although the previous poster may prefer one setup to the other, they are not the same. It is all in what your preference is.
The improvements he refers to are relative. To each his own. Lets see the numbers. Simple as that. The E63 was designed not to beat the E55, but to compete with the M5. The "smoother" powerband, means there is no beast under there. It wasn't a design parameter from an improvement perspective. It was to protect teh weak link tranny.
Keep in mind the 55K engine is not jerky as it goes. It is simply ON or OFF. That means it jerks when you go from on to off. Think of the logic behind that. You are literally saying that it ramps up FASTER. Ramping up slower does not mean it is a smoother powerband.
As I've said a thousand times, to each his own. They are different animals. Each is nearing 500hp, so it will be an awesome car no matter which you go with.
Last thing, comparing an '03 (or even 05) E55 to an '07 E63 is not fair. The drivetrain on the E55 was greatly upgraded before the release of the E63.

For me, the one difference that would make me not want to swap my 55 for a 63 is the unavailability of drive dynamic seats. They are one of my favorite options and it just boggles my mind why MB would discontinue them.

Yes,the mag's seem to now show the 63 is as fast 0-60 and in the QM. I heard an E63's exhaust tonight while standing curbside as it drove away from the valet area and it sounded simply amazing, a new SL 55 was right behind it and sounded good, but the 63 just sounded a bit meaner...nice.
The E63 brakes during my test drive were WAY too strong!
Could not modulate/feather them at all. They should have better stopping power by the feel, but drivability with them was annoying. Not sure if it was only that car.

I was searching the net for some good videos on the E63 and came across a european video of an E63 test. I couldn't believe it when they showed the interior and it had the Drive Dynamic Seats! I also love the DDS and almost don't want to buy the car because it doesn't have them. Maybe they can be specially ordered since the car I saw had them in it? That would be great.
For me it boils down to the low end torque. That does it. Makes my around town driving much more fun. I would never go to E63 over a clean E55. Just my opinion.
Only place Id go from here is maybe a new S600 w/Renntech.
Jason
Oh yeah and the Dynamic seats.....

Yeah, I've been noticing the low price of S600s also. Does the ECM upgrade from Renntech really produce the power gains they claim? I think they say that with just the software update, the S600 puts out more power and torque than the S65. Is this true?
I guess it'll be less nimble a car than the E55, but the added luxury AND increased straight-line performance, at the massively depreciated price at two or three years old adds up to a tempting package...
Too bad the SL600's hold value so well. That'd be the upgrade for sure if they dropped in price like the S600's do.

Mine dynoed at 125+ RWHP over stock with just the ECU/TCU from Renntech. Yes, the mods meet and exceed the promises. The power really transforms the car into a real beast. MY CL was just OK quick before the ECU/TCU now it's freaky fast.
Here was my before and after dyno:

Ouch. Point well taken, Jangy. Some BAAAAAAD stuff discussed on your thread. Ugly and sobering, I hope the right people make good and the story ends ok. Till then I'll DEFINITELY think twice before any mods. Bad stuff!
