Holy cow, OZ brings up a good point. i do remeber some mebers having to get it "turned on" through star. I thought the changes made through the engineering menu only held if you change out units. I dunno as much about the earlier models.

Also, you may have to have a flash or update on the command. I never tried mine on an '03. It was sweet on the '04, though.

Thanks guys- car came back from the dealer and they have diagnosed that my 2003 head unit can not read MP3. the upgrade would cost ~$800!!
so it's back to the drawing board.

Do you have a COMAND with navigation? If you do try eBay or contact Steve at MBenzNL for advice/software upgrade disk. Also, go into the engineers menu (search, I posted pictures of the screens)) and see if 'enable mp3' option is there.
I'm sceptical that they are correct.
