IMO the rears should be closer to et42 for a 10" width.
This isn't an isolated thing. It is an HRE thing. Also, neither client is complaining about not getting them fixed. their complaint is in not having it done the first time. For once, I'm glad I didn't get my rims!

I had the same issue with my Carlsson's. Fortunately, I was able to shave 2mm off the supplied spacers

I agree on tire size, but i also think that running 275s max is restrictive. et33 is pretty aggressive in the rear with that much width. For reference, the SL550 rims are 18X9.5 et33 and they rub with anything larger than 275s.

Ali's are 31offset with 285-25' on his R10 20's.Jays are 35offset.So maybe its different to each manufactures way of measuring?

That is odd. I'm pretty sure jay runs 285s and has plenty of room on the outside. It may be time to take a ruler to the rims? Oddly, enough, Jay's are HREs as well and they have done enough W211s to know by now.

one issue that people aren't really thinking about is tire manufacturer.

example:

fk452 285 is about equal in width to a bridgestone potenza 275 or sometimes even a 265.

falken, happens to make their tires very skinny. bridgestone, on the other hand, happens to make theirs very wide.

michelin is a little on the wide side, as is federal, but federals are taped in a more linear fashion from tread block to bead, than michelins are, so federals usually will not rub with the same size/offset when michelins do, purely because of the sidewall shape, and not how wide it is.

it could be that the 285's one person is running is a plus sized 285 vs a skinny sized 285.

another example, i had a 265/30 19 michelin ps2 next to a 285/30 18 toyo t1-r, and they were actually the same exact size (section width).

some food for thought, that is probably why some people are having a problem, and others arent.

It looks like I have three options.

1) Roll the fenders. (Not going to happen)
2) HRE can shave 3mm. This would give me et36. I'm not sure this is enough. Does anyone know how I can measure?
3) HRE can replace the barrels. 3" outside, 7" inside.

Number 2 is the quickest option. What do you guys think?

I think option 3 is it. I don't know that HRE would shave them and keep your warranty. I say let HRE switch out the barrels. They have the right offsets and the customer service, so it is only your time. Don't make a hasty decision and then wish you had waited.

So the Toyo's measure skinny also? How do the Contis compare to the Kumo's and Toyo's on section width?

Jays wheels are 34 front and 35 rears, oddly enough I got that info from HRE directly.

Ali's car has 34 fronts and 31 rears, but Im not sure if fender rolling will be needed. Also not sure what tirs he has but Im betting Kumo's or Toyo's.

They will chane the centers out if anything for you.I would think you only need another 2mm but then again your running a tall tire too?

Ali has Toyo T1R's. The Toyo's are recommend for people who dump their cars based on the reduced width and angled shoulders.

Greg, option #3 is the best option. Everything else is a band-aid fix.

Drives Slowly
Interesting read, a lot of factors at play here.

Tomorrow, I am having new PS2's installed on my BBS LMs. Front and rear wheels have a 32+ offset. Sizes will be 255/35/19s for my 8 1/2, fronts and 285/30/19 on my 9 1/2 rears.

My MB master mechanic thinks............................. it will work!!!
Jangy states............................................ ..it might work???????
Rafal warns............................................. .....it wil rub!!!!

I look at it this way............. the worst case scenario is that someone from MB World gets a hell of a deal on new PS2s. Now, is that all bad?

go for #2. my 9.5" rears are rubbing, so i am having this done w/ HRE too.

replacing the barrel is just too much $$ ($400 each)

i'd just cut the wheel, go down a tire size and roll the fenders.

Have a look at the attached picture. You can clearly see where the tire was rubbing the finder. From that point to the outside of the tire is almost an inch. So now I'm not sure getting an extra 1/2 of offset will work. With an additional 1/2 inch of offset I believe it would be et45?
