Interesting read, a lot of factors at play here.
Tomorrow, I am having new PS2's installed on my BBS LMs. Front and rear wheels have a 32+ offset. Sizes will be 255/35/19s for my 8 1/2, fronts and 285/30/19 on my 9 1/2 rears.
My MB master mechanic thinks............................. it will work!!!
Jangy states............................................ ..it might work???????
Rafal warns............................................. .....it wil rub!!!!
I look at it this way............. the worst case scenario is that someone from MB World gets a hell of a deal on new PS2s. Now, is that all bad?![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)

HRE was very clear that I got what the vendor ordered. If I want to have the rims refitted it will cost me. No offer of customer service from them. This is why the vendor is doing everything possible to avoid having the rims refitted. Anyway, what do you think about the additional 1/2 inch offset based on the pictures above? I would hate to go through this logistical nightmare and find out the new offsets don't work.

Hmmm, I wonder what they will say to the other memeber that has his rears poking out? Two different vendors and HRE wasn't involved? OK. I say you ask HRE to recommend the ideal offset and have it done (not at your expense). HRE has done many of these sizes. Hell, take a look at VIC55s and have them match his offset. These sizes have been out for years. I find it hard to belive that a vendor gave them bad numbers and they didn't question it?

Have a look at the attached picture. You can clearly see where the tire was rubbing the finder. From that point to the outside of the tire is almost an inch. So now I'm not sure getting an extra 1/2 of offset will work. With an additional 1/2 inch of offset I believe it would be et45?
You might be right. The barrel change alone might not fix it but perhaps a combination of the barrel change, tire brand/size change, and (hate to say it) but rolling the fenders might make it work. I know some of you are hesitant to roll the fenders but it is really a painless process if done correctly.
The reason I bring up the tire brand is because of the difference in sidewalls and variations in width between brands. Notice the difference in sidewall structure between your tires (on the right) and the T1R's.

Here is the deal, though. Getting 10s to fit under an E55 is a no-brainer. Also, getting 285s on those tens has been done all too often. I just don't see why they would all of a sudden not fit? I agree with Ling in that a fender roll is a small issue if done properly. I am actually planning on it for mine when I try for 305s.

Agreed. They could have even asked HRE. My order never specified offsets. It sepcified the dimensions and that I was to run PS2s in specific sizes. we had teleconferences with HRE regarding offset and they were comfy with it all.

Greg,
I take your word for it but they dont look to be that bad?
The centers are what needs changed if you have to run that size tire and brand. If not as some have said,a tire brand change might be what you need.Worse case deal, you might be able to shave the rotors 1-2mm and the wheel 1-2mm.Not the best way and i cant say if its positively safe or not.1-2mm might not be too harsh though.

My head is spinning. I sincerely thank all of you for your time and offers of help. I’ve got way too much stress at work to add to it with this. You have no idea what has been offered as a solution…take the tires off…drop them off at HRE…ship them to HRE…roll my fenders…pray to God…etc. Good thing I have a tire machine in my garage (not)…or the time (and alternative transportation) to transport them to the tire place to have the tires removed and then ship them to HRE (or drive them to HRE)…How the F’ck do I ship them to HRE? I’m sure my local Mail Boxes Etc will have shipping boxes for these. I think I may be better off throwing them in the trash…
No I’m not telling you the location of my local dumpster…But I sure as hell am frustrated.

Sorry you're going through this Greg. Been through something similar myself when I got my wheels. It'll be worth it in the end. Easiest way if you have time is to drop them off at HRE yourself. If this helps any, there is a meet on Sat, April 28th at HRE so if you're interested, see if you can drop them off then.

you bought the wrong tires. 255/35/20 and 285/30/20, your crazy. Of course its going to rub. your supposed to do 245/30/20 and 285/25/20. Your up one size on the sidewall. Thats why its rubbing.

2) The fronts do not rub
3) Several people have 285/30 on 19's w/out rubbing

even though they were made specifically for a C32....

And the saga continues. The dealer shaved the wheels by 5mm. I also had the fenders rolled. All in an effort to make the 285s fit the car. Well they are still rubbing. I also had the wheels repainted as I did not like the color (my fault, my cost and paid for). Well, I love the color now, but I can't drive the car (the way I want to). I think this may be an HRE thing and I would like your opinion. The tried and true approach is 10" rims with 275s (not to mention that I specified that I wanted to run 285s). Well 285s are about 15.5mm wider than 275s. That means about 7.75mm per side of the rim right? I shaved 5mm plus I rolled the fenders. I figure at least 4mm in the fenders (9mm in total). So my conclusion is that these rims were not fabricated correctly. Based on the aforementioned even 275s would not fit. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What color are your HREs now? Post some pictures.

I ordered 843R's for my 65 thru a vendor because of the deal I wanted and HRE made them to the vendor's request even though I found out later HRE told them it may rub. The wheels came in as requested with the specified offsets. The wheels rubbed and I had to make some fender mods. Even though I wanted HRE to make the adjustments for free it wasnt their fault.
If HRE made the offsets wrong versus your vendors request then they need to fix them. But now you have painted them and had the dealer shave the back pads? Too many parties involved it might seem? I feel for you Greg as all you wanted was a nice set of wheels.

Yep I'm running 255/35/19 and 285/30/19. I had the wheels painted silver. I'll post some picks in a different thread. Sorry to hear you’re having the same problem. I hope your wheels turn out right.

It boils down to the specs. Who provided them and what was requested versus what was completed. IMO if HRE recieved an order and completed it to request and they dont fit, that falls on the vendor and not HRE. Now if you worked directly with HRE and they told you that the specs would fit your car that is another story.

My dealer told me he ordered wheels to fit an E63. Assuming HRE knew the wheels were going on an E class Mercedes, aren’t they at fault? I’m sure they have made hundreds of sets of wheels for the W211 E class (and they should know what fits and what doesn’t fit). As I said, I don’t think that 275s would have fit, although they will probably fit now. Funny I went to Cars & Coffee today and there is a guy with 295/25/20 on 10.5 inch wheels on a lowered E class (no rubbing on his car).
It wasn’t my suggestion to have the wheels shaved. It was the dealer who told me he could make them fit by shaving them 5mm. Because of the 5mm shave I have a bigger problem. Now I don’t think HRE can fix the wheels. Before they were shaved, HRE could have changed the barrels to a 3” outer and 7” inner. I don’t think that will work now as there isn’t 1/2 inch between the wheels and the calipers.
Your right all I wanted was a nice set of wheels.

I think you are correct that now due to back pad shaving you have an issue with them getting fixed. I just ordered new faces for my 65 with a little less aggressive back pad so the rubbing will go away. HRE was willing to work with me but I still have to pay because my retailer turned in the specs (I have worked a deal with him to compensate for my costs of the re-do). I know I went for an aggressive set up and once it didnt work I figured I better just have HRE fix it.
Sorry for your troubles, it just sucks.
