Extended Warranty Qs for 2004-6 E55s

Hey! I'm a new member, but I've lurked for some time. I ran a search on "extended warranties" but I didn't seem to find any complete answers. Essentially, I'm looking into picking up a 2004-6 E55 AMG as a daily driver, but I'm concerned about the warranty. From what I understand, I would not be eligible for any of the M-B extended warranties because I wouldn't be the original owner of a car (and it would only apply to 2005+ models anyway).

What are my options?

I've got an 03 e55 and my factory warrany is up in september. Lisa from Chico motors quoted me about 3500 with no deductible for an additional 3 years up to 100k miles. Shes hard to get a hold of, but it's worth it. It's for a Daimler Chrysler Maximum Care Plus... I will be checking with my tech and SA about the warranty, but she said that its practically the same as the factory warranty.

You have a gazillion options. I wish I was back in the market. One option comes to mind is this: Quite a deal for a really fast E55, https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/187094-my-e55-sale-md-va-dc-area-pictures.html

This car has really been taken care of, is great looking, and has a good amount of warranty left. Priced to sell.

The Certified Pre Owned vehicle is only available from a Mercedes dealer or from an individual / used dealer to the extent of the remaining warranty. The warranty is extended by one year and the miles portion becomes 100,000. I have heard that the cost of the CPO is about $2,500 for one year, however it may be worth more to you. I have read a lot of posts about issues with these cars so be sure and get the most warranty possible. In a CPO deal with a MB dealer you can pay and get the warranty extended by either one or two or three years. The MB dealers mark these cars way up but they are willing to deal if you are not to anxious.

As you are probably aware, the market is good for these cars and it pays to shop for as long as possible. Try to get an '06 because the prices are down and the warranty is better, plus the improvements /fixes are all in the '06.

For me, I actually waited until figuring out how to afford an E63. There are some attractive lease deals you might check into.

Be careful with the options. Study what is out there. It is best to get certain options and a car without say, Keyless GO, is well not as desirable.

Have fun looking, you might try Auto Trader. Remember, most cars are listed for way too much reflecting the fact that they were just purchased for $85-90K and they don't want to take a bath.

If I had it to do over again, I would probably get the car I first mentioned above. Check out the pics.

Stupid question:
My car is still under bumper-to-bumper warranty... if I buy an extended warranty from Lisa (which I've heard to be the best):

1. Can I get either pro-rated refund or full refund if I sell the car before the new car mfg. 4yr/50K warranty expires?
2. Is it transferrable?

Thanks.... my 2nd question was whether the extended warranty is transferrable.

And another question is:
For an extended warranty, like Lisa sells, does it matter if I buy it now or later (of course before the new car warranty expires)? Will the price be higher if I buy it later (aside from regular price increase from time to time)?

I think if you buy a new MB, your price for extended warranty gets higher as you wait longer (based on year & mileage). If the same thing applies to aftermarket extended warranty, I don't mind shelling $3.5K now if I know that it would be harder and/or more expensive for me to get extended warranty.

Yes, the age and miles will increase the price of the Lisa extended warranty. They want you to shell out $$ now for the extended warranty knowing you will be using the new car warranty for quite some time. If you want to be protected and also for resale value later, I would go ahead and get it. You absolutely should not drive the E55 without the warranty. Many '03 cars have attractive prices and warrantys that are getting ready to expire. I would read the after market warranty very closely to see what it covers. Getting stuck with some exotic repair will be a real pisser....

Thanks... I have to call Lisa tomorrow then

Anyway, I could read and re-read the fine prints.... but nothing tells better than actual owner experience.... so for those who purchased warranty from Lisa, is it good? What's not covered (at least based on your actual experience)?

I just purchased an '04 and extended the MB warranty from the dealer until 2011. Great peace of mind for me on a car that is expensive to get anything fixed.

Thanks for the information, everyone!

Could you give me the contact information for Lisa? I'm unfamiliar with her or the dealership you mentioned. However, are you the original owner of your 2003 E55? Like I said in my first post, I was under the impression that only the original owner could buy the extended warranty through Mercedes-Benz. While it transfers to subsequent owners, they can't buy it if it wasn't already on the car. Furthermore, the Mercedes website indicates it's only valid on 2005+ vehicles.

sack5000, that's a beautiful E55, and I might have to look into that.

Sorry to thread jack Res Ipsa just figured I'd post here instead of making a new thread... I want to buy another E55, maybe another 2005 or possibly a 2004... I know a lot of 04s are being sold with like 49,000 miles on them, typical. How can I add the extended warranty? I've heard that some dealers can do it for u after inspecting it and paying a premium price... is this true? or I can't extend it?... this warranty u guys are talking about above is a Mercedes-Benz warranty right? sort of what I'm talking about? I'd love to get the info ASAP as I'm looking to have a 2nd E55 in the driveway thos week. Thanks

That's similar to my question. I'd love the convenience of simply buying the extended warranty right then and there.

I would suggest calling different dealers and shopping the prices. Some dealers sell Non MB warranties so watch out. I guess they make more money on the non mb ones than the mb warranty.
When I bought my CPO 01 E430 I bought the warranty from the same dealer but I did shop around for the ext. warranty. As far as I know as long as the car is still under fact. warr there shouldn't be an issue with buying an ext. warr. even though you are the 2nd owner.

Warranty

A MB extended warranty (certified pre-owned) can only be added by a MB dealer. Once the original owner buys the car and drives away there is not any way to add the warranty. An after market warranty can be added whenever. If a car is certified pre-owned, the remaining warranty period is automatically transferred to a new owner.

I just went through a whole search and it seems that MB policy is that extended warranty cannot be transferred unless its CPO'ed and that a 2nd owner cannot get an extended warranty.
But - MB does not advertise that some dealerships can actually CPO the car for you therefore being able to upgrade your warranty at one of those dealerships regardless if you are the 2nd owner. They need to do an inspection on the car and then they work out the pricing to certify a "Mercedes Benz Certified Extended Warranty"... so I guess now I have to find the right dealer?

I spoke with my SA today at Smythe European and he's been working there for 7 years. I sent him the Daimler Chrysler Contract and he says that he's never dealt with their warranties before...

Anyone actually HAVE experience filing a claim with this warranty?

Anyone know if this "good deal" from Lisa on an extended warranty is still available now that Chrysler split from Daimler Benz?
