Unfathomable loss...
My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of those lost at Virginia Tech yesterday. I am stunned and deeply saddened by the horrific act of one thoughtless individual. Hopefully this tragedy has not impacted the families of the members of this forum.

Very sad indeed, My prayers are with the families affected by this cowardly act.
What I also find troubling is that in a campus with so many people this piece of trash with two handguns was able to shoot 30+ people before he was stopped. I am ashamed to say we have become a me-me-me society were self persavation is above all else.

It's good to see you guys caring. It is a horrible thing that happened. Words can not come close to expressing the tragedy. My prayers are for the victims, their families and every member of the human race. I would love to think people are past this type of thing. It saddens my heart we are not.

Tragic...
Very tragic and very sad...
Prayers go out to all families affected...
I thought he was never stopped, he kept shooting until the last couple of rounds, he shot himself in the face so police could not identify him. And of course, he died instantly before police/security could get him.
Over 2,000 years of civilization and people still kill each other over a small disagreement...

I usually dont post much...but this i have to..
I lived on a campus for two yrs.. back in 1998, at Ohio state university.
I remeber how it used to be... campus culture/life is prob the best i have ever experienced till now at age 27.
Something like this to happen at a place which honestly is a mental haven compared to the harshness of life outside....is horrible.
Even tho i am thousands of miles away, since yesterday i havent slept well ...the images of my life on campus merging with images at virginia tech are not pretty at all.
We should all consider this incident as a lesson... and think of ways Americans and Ppl all over the world can use to force thier govs to adopt ways which makes such an incident more difficult to occur.
This type of carnage is happening everywhere..
U look at Iraq... 50-60 ppl brutally cut to pieces on average everyday is a norm
same in afghanistan... and so many other regions..
i know the word " i want world peace" used to be a cliche...
but damn it humans do need that right now more than ever.

Problem is...the guy was warped...he showed signs of it to many many people...yet no one picked up on it or said anything to anyone about how odd he was. They just laughed him off as the "guy that doesn't tak"...big red flag...but there are so many walking wounded in this world you never know who is going to snap I guess.

My career revolves around science and technology. That is what is taught in schools. What really should be taught in conjunction with that is how to be a happy human being and how to manage your mind and thoughts. We have gotten so far away from what is important as a person that all that matters now is money and beating the competition. Most people don’t even know what they want in life.
In the early 1800s people lived to around 35 on average. They raised families and built a country. Now 30 is said to be the new age when most people are considered an adult. What happened?
That shooter was wacked out, maybe he never learned how to be happy and enjoy life regardless of what happens.

As a Virginia Tech Alumni (04') and as an avid follower of this terrible tragedy, I find it hard to see where the "me-me-me" mentality came into play? The holocaust surviving professor who threw his body against the door as a shield in order to allow kids to jump to safety? The countless young men and women that barricaded the doors in order to keep the crazy gun man out? When a nut chains the doors and walks into 17-20 person class room where students are completely unaware and vulnerable, it is very difficult to stop such a cowardice attack. If anything I would say these kids acted exactly as they should and defended others and themselves. A split second decision saved many more lives in various classrooms. Self-preservation? Not from what I am seeing...
