Question Replacement for PS2

Which tire would you reccommend for replacing Michelin PS2's? I've gone through my rear PS2's in 6,000 miles and would like a tire with a little more tread life. $700 every 6 months strikes me as a little steep.

Just make sure you are comfy with losing performance.

I think they are even softer than the PS2's so expect replacement time to be about 4k miles with those.

6k miles seems a bit extreme even for PS2's. I am not a slouch in my car, as I probably hit the 150 mph mark daily but my PS2's still lasted about 12k miles. Coalman are you lighting your up everytime from a dig?

That kind of wear only comes from the dig. I get about 5-7K miles out of a set of mine.

I'd say he's flogging that thing, but that's just conjecture.

Nothing beats the PS2 for street performance tires. Just my 2 cents

Have just 2,500 ticks on my contis and the mothers show significant wear. Not really a maintenance item but just another hidden cost of the vehicle.

Toyo RA1's beat everything I've had for traction but they don't last very long

I would have to agree with everyone else. The tires aren't the problem. The best solution is to buy a daily driver and lay off the 55's gas pedal. Most of us just keep buying tires.

I just put Bridgestone's Potenza RE-050A Pole Position on mine couldn't be happier. I wouldn't say i hated the PS2's but I definitely wasn't happy with them. They felt kinda sloppy, bad wear, and had vibration issues.

Not sure if the Bridgestones are any better for wear...I only have 500 miles on them at the moment but they're worth a shot. I'll do a canyon run this weekend and see how they handle compared to the PS2's. The vibration at higher speeds has been eliminated though.

Coalman,

I have found that most 45-35 series get noisy after 6-7K miles and by 9-11K miles have a definite wear pattern due in part to our staggered setup. I now use the Kumho ECSTA they are 1 of 5 tires that have the load rating for the E 55. I talked to Luke at the Tire Rack and he said the PS2 worked best on the E55. But did not dissuade me from the Kumhos, at the time last Sept tires (set of 4)and shipping was less than $500. I now see they are on the Tire Racks best seller list and may be over $600 (set)

My though is I want tires that I can throw away at 6K mi.,and at less than half the cost of PS2s, I would rather have fresh rubber 2X.

Thanks for comments. As usual very helpful. I am constantly accelerating from the dig from light to light, but never light up the rear tires. Apparently, this is hard on the tires because I am down to 2/32nds in 6,000 miles evenly across the tires.

They may not feel like they're spinning, but with E55 tq and pushing 4200+lb car, they're right at the brink of breaking loose. One thing you could do is,drive the car is C mode and ease back on the $700 pedal.

C mode? Heck, then just disconnect the Super Charger!
You'll save money on tires and gas. Plus the drivetrain will last forever!

That's actually an interesting idea. Who'd be interested in a switch that could manually engage or disengage the blower clutch??

Not me. I'd rather have the ***** on all the time. I don't even like the clutch being there.

Yeah I mean, that's my point. Its like the POWER button in my M5, its driver's preference as to how much power you want. If you're in Jangy's corner, you can keep the thing engaged in the damn supermarket parking lot, if you're being hurt by these insane gas prices ($80 to fill up my damn Esco) you can switch the thing off and get sick gas mileage.
